The goal of this project is to strengthen marriages through challenging couples to embrace covenant marriage, understand God's design for human sexuality, ascertain spousal emotional needs, and identify destructive behaviors which prevent intimacy. The project will involve enlisting married couples for participation in a thirteen session study entitled God's design for marital intimacy. Each participant will engage in a process whereby he or she comes to a better understanding of one's own self and his or her spouse in order to create marital intimacy. By examining God's word, each participant should gain a better understanding of sex as a glorious gift, meant by its creator to be fully expressed and enjoyed within the proper covenant relationship. The project leader will also present a series of four sermons on famous couples in the Bible. The implementation of the project demonstrated that the capacitation of the leaders was effective and that the proposed objectives were accomplished. Additionally, it presents the John Gottman research-based marital therapy process. It demonstrates the strong correlations between a Roman Catholic theology of marriage and Gottman's Sound Marital House theory. Awareness for the need for such a ministry arose when the author discovered how few shelters accept homeless families. It occurred to the author that the church has an obligation to keep these families intact, especially during the trying ordeal of a homeless crisis. Ethnographic and pro-active research methods were employed in a effort to bring together a healthy mix of objective and subjective information. The research was offered in the form of a project paper to a control group consisting of laypersons in the congregation. At the close of the session, a forced option questionnaire was distributed to determine feasibility. Twenty of the twenty-one participants believed, based upon the information gathered, that the ministry was feasible.
