The strategy that has proven to be the most biblical and effective in accomplishing this task is that of establishing or planting churches that are reaching people with the gospel in cities, towns, and villages. However, it takes called and gifted men to plant these churches and the reality is that 'the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few' (Matthew 9:37). The purpose of this study is to discover how the Northern Illinois Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America can develop a growing pool of qualified church planters in order to increase the rate of successful church planting in that presbytery. Is there a way for this presbytery, as well as the Church at large, to increase the number of men qualified for church planting so that it might more effectively fulfill the Great Commission and respond to the growing needs and opportunities that exist in America, a nation that is in serious spiritual decline? It is the finding of this paper that a Church Planting Apprenticeship Program built around the biblical model of mentoring that Jesus demonstrated with His own disciples has significant potential for developing this growing pool of qualified church planters. Such a program might also make possible, by God's grace, the ignition of a church planting multiplication movement that will allow the church to reach the increasingly large numbers of unchurched and unbelieving people among all the different people groups of America. In addition, it would provide a built-in training and support system for church planters and would allow the local church to become more directly and personally involved in the enterprise of world mission."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131527222919168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:48:54.818Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:38:48Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:40:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"74df3d2c-005a-4c65-bef8-91ac5e94678f","accessControl_ssim":["cd9b1e4b-54c3-4445-83f6-01836cc37863"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Experiencing Scripture: a qualitative study of the impact of a twelve week course on the art and science of biblical interpretation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:38:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:33:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2361bed4-052a-4fa8-9776-14bf22c6ecb8"],"hasLease_ssim":["d4e25d72-76e2-47ca-8293-db9ee95b1cf8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Donald C Guthrie"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Austin McCaskill"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Bible--Study--Methodology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["For this project I developed a course of study to train church members in the basic skills of hermeneutics as well as teach background material on the canon, the text of the Old and New Testaments, and strengths and weaknesses of different Bible translations. I also included several issues that are specific to the Reformed tradition, such as the relationship between the Old and New Testaments vis-à-vis dispensationalism. The specific purpose of this study was to discover how a twelve week course on hermeneutics can influence the level of confidence with which a person in the class interprets and applies the Scriptures to his or her own life. After teaching the course to twenty church members I interviewed six of them. Though most students had heard of the 'Rule of Context' few knew how to apply it. They found the course very helpful on this point. The course also increased their ability to identify major biblical themes, increased their confidence in interpreting the Scriptures and hearing God speak to them concretely through Scripture, as well as their ability to identify mistakes others make in interpretation. Understanding the rules of genre was especially helpful to them. Further study is needed in two areas: First, in the relationship between the historical development of church doctrine and the discipline of hermeneutics. Second, in understanding the role of the Holy Spirit in the process of interpretation and application."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131003413069824,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:40:35.274Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:38:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:47:43Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8ef776d1-64e8-48a7-80d5-98b1292fd0f2","accessControl_ssim":["8343f101-bbaf-486d-9864-8da1c04ca76e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Religious education at the margins: nurturing hope among women"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:38:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:19:20Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["81249022-39d7-4d07-82a0-ff6b229e8fc9"],"hasLease_ssim":["cc22c0b8-1396-4f5b-b7bb-e224bfee6a81"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Regis College (Toronto, ON)"],"advisor_tesim":["Lorna M Bowman"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gertrude Ann Jocksch"],"publisher_tesim":["Regis College"],"subject_tesim":["Religious education of adults","Women--Religious life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This action in ministry explores the experience of hope in the lives of women who live with mental illness. I began this research project confident that Christianity is a faith tradition that supports and fosters hope and wholeness among people. Using the theoretical foundations of adult religious educators and the insights of Christian feminist liberation theologians, I facilitated a spirituality gathering of women at Our Place, Community of Hope. I chose to use Christian feminist theologians because these women have influenced my life profoundly, nurturing my hope and giving me courage to own my place in church and society. My greatest desire for the women who gathered together was that they develop a deepening sense of hope as they learn of a God who loves them unconditionally. In my research I wanted to learn about the experience of hope in women who participated in the gatherings as well as to determine if their hope was nurtured by these gatherings. To do this I used the question: How does adult education nurture hope among women at Our Place. The findings illuminate the fact that hope lies deep within the consciousness of these women and that the women's spirituality gathering played a momentous role in nurturing their hope."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127681462435840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:47:47.215Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:38:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:07:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"10c4bba2-f559-4d5e-acf2-8d1206c787df","accessControl_ssim":["31e5b9b4-dcb1-411e-bf76-8bf8d75ae10f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The right to life: an Orthodox perspective"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:38:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:36:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["87547118-0d33-4aa5-b0db-6856ab2f864a"],"hasLease_ssim":["209bbef1-6c7c-4c2e-9408-640355b4e512"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ronald Cole-Turner"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dumitru Macaila"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Abortion"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author developed a six session adult curriculum on the right to life from an Orthodox perspective, He delivered six lectures before an Orthodox audience and concluded with a questionnaire in which participants indicated they are overwhelmingly pro-life and through their course enriched their understanding of Orthodox teaching. The research discloses the importance of organized, personal, and regular recruitment of new laborers."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127359692210176,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:42:40.351Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:38:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:09:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b9388e09-765e-439f-a89e-5c97523f2d68","accessControl_ssim":["f008855d-2aec-4567-b4cd-0b68015d9a7f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Vertical living in a horizontal world: navigating toward a constructive public theology"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:38:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:28:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["84e7b937-f7c2-4fc9-a321-a734311200d2"],"hasLease_ssim":["0bc8c800-97bf-43bd-9cdf-4a5a12398e8f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Luther Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Walter Sundberg"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Timothy R Eichler"],"publisher_tesim":["Luther Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Military chaplains","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study explores the development of a tolerant asymmetrical ambassadorship (TAA) as constructive public theology based upon the Chaplain Corps, United States Navy. The topic is explored through the researcher's experience and theology and the theological tradition of the church, specifically the United Church of Canada, and using a qualitative research methodology. The specifics of the process involve a preacher basing his sermons on the Old Testament Lectionary texts for four weeks of the Epiphany season. Both the preacher and the congregation then reflect, through written and verbal responses, on the experience. The researcher's assumption prior to the thesis work was that the Old Testament is not being preached often or well enough in the United Church of Canada, and the data collected validates the assumption. The thesis then concluded with a discussion of the factors contributing to that lack in Old Testament preaching in the United Church of Canada and some future possibilities for change and transformation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719769568444416,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:55:20.966Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
