In 1996 when the research began the college had no means of evaluating and assessing the spiritual formation program. The desire was to develop and test an assessment tool for the spiritual formation of students at LCC.  The hypothesis was that LCC was accomplishing its goals in spiritual formation.  The research methodology sought to develop and test the tool form an initial pretest in May, 1996 and a posttest in May, 2000.  The pretest/posttest model was employed, supported by interviews, and a spiritual well-being instrument. Models of mergers from both the business and nonprofit sectors were examined to determine the necessary procedures for successful mergers.  The procedures, used by Berean Mission, Inc and UFM International, were described to provide a model for mergers of mission agencies. This is primarily due to the lack of education of new members, parents and children.  A strong emphasis upon individual response in one's faith journey cheapens the significance and value of the covenant community.  This thesis proposes a situation in which the congregation would have a strong understanding of infant baptism, confirmation, and the covenant community. Authority is traditionally understood as legitimated power. Authority like other forms of power can be corrupted.  Authority as domination needs to be examined in the preaching situation also.  The preachers' authority is a crucial problem in contemporary society and therefore new understandings of authority emerge.  The authors' questions are: how can the preacher share the experience of God and life with the community through preaching?   With different groups in the community can the preacher be an authority, but not the only one? This thesis builds a rationale for using Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences to expand our teaching methodology with adults.  Used appropriately multiple intelligence theory offers a window into the minds of adults in the church, and can give form to the content and practices of Christian faith in ways that incarnate meaning for and with adult learners. The scope of the dissertation includes an assessment of an evangelical seminary. Post-evangelicalism is a response to the current shifts in thinking, particularly that of post-modernism. How does a disabled working-class woman find her voice to become a preacher in a mainline Protestant denomination?  Does she have something new to say to a congregation?  How does her particular preaching style interface with a small, rural congregation in the midst of change?  Using liberation theology, new homiletic theories and autobiography, this paper will explore some of the complexities of preacher formation. To consider only liturgical presiding seems to neglect a holistic understanding of presiding. Five case studies of pastors in the local church of Greensburg, PA provided the core content of the research.  The comparative analysis surfaced the following three agreements.
