The author proposes a four sermon 'process' approach, and identifies four characteristics of effective goodbye preaching.  Sermons and feedback from a parish project group are included in the supporting material.  A theology of leave-taking to undergird the process is also offered. The effect of positive faith on physical, mental, and spiritual wellness was tested.  Verbal and written responses of a group of twenty volunteers from the First United Methodist Church of Monahans, Texas to a series of sermons and positive coaching was the basis of this study.  The participants ranged in age from seventeen to seventy five. Youth feel left out of the preaching moment.  Youth will respond to preaching that tries to meet them at their level, lifts up their experience as ways a community experiences the divine, and fosters a sense of companionship on the journey of faith that all disciples make.  To date there has been little written in the field of homiletics about the youth and preaching. The metaphor of preacher as companion incorporates inviting youth to reflect on their own identities, nurturing the youth, and lifting up their experiences as ways to encounter the divine.  The methods used to engage youth in preaching were using language that youth can understand, employing story and narrative, and occasionally moving out of the pulpit. Canadian Armed Forces"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This is a pilot program designed to identify the types of issues and skills useful to chaplains and other health care professionals working with military members suffering from symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  As a result, a spiritual health presentation was developed and taught to a group of seven military members of the Canadian Armed Forces as part of a psycho-educational PTSD group program.  Administration of questionnaires and verbal responses was the the basis of the evaluation of effectiveness. This study determined the effect of designing an intentional process using a team approach of pastor and thirty leaders.  The study made use fo the sport of whitewhater rafting as an image for discipleship development. In this metaphor the church is an outfitter, providing the necessary resources and training for equipping disciples. The preaching acts resulted in positive change in the actions and thought patterns of both the lay-leaders and congregants.  The hermeneutical and homiletical tools gave the voice and vision for understanding both the biblical and life text as interdependent allies. The criterion for participation in the study was a church growth of at least 50 percent over the past five years. A survey was conducted of the pastors and key leaders using a researcher designed questionnaire.  The purpose of the questionnaire was to gain an understanding of the church health characteristics each church possessed.
