The author assessed the level of faith maturity among members by means of a questionnaire adapted from Search Institute, held several goal setting and program planning meetings with a focus group of lay leaders, and presented several elective learning experiences over a twelve-month period. The curriculum, written and taught by the pastor/researcher in Spanish, followed some of John Wesley's practices. The curriculum was tested with a small group of church leaders, many of whom had never received any formalized instruction in the spiritual disciplines and the Wesleyan theological tradition. The sessions included reading on spirituality and its development in the Wesleyan tradition, small group discussions, and the practice of spiritual disciplines between sessions. The research design employs a questionnaire to obtain indicators as to where the board was in its development and what leadership development needed to occur for improved effectiveness. The design includes a lay focus group for interpreting data and developing leadership development sessions. The study includes a historical overview of church leadership, devotionals to focus the board's attention at the beginning of each educational session, and six leadership development sessions to be presented in monthly board meetings. In-parish data was collected through a congregational survey, focus groups, and a data analysis and reflection group. The pastor/researcher describes several expository methods and provides distinctive elements of expository preaching from literature in the field of homiletics. A lay committee assisted in the sermon preparation process by familiarizing themselves with the biblical text, assisting the pastor with the sermon development from the text, listening to the sermon in the congregational context, and evaluating the sermon according to criteria consistent with the essential elements. The lay committee met with the pastor seven times over a six-week process. Project conclusions include increased understanding of the homiletical process and informed listening on the part of the lay committee. The pastor noted a clearer sense of the biblical text by viewing it through lay and pastoral perspectives. The small group curriculum provides a meaningful tool for pastors and caregivers, equipping them to respond to the needs of grieving people. The curriculum was field tested in a rural community with limited professional counseling and community resources. Pastoral interviews and congregational focus groups supplied data about how this service functions within a particular local church setting in which multiple worship services are offered to congregations. The survey and its results are printed and examined in this work.  Findings in this survey conclude that there is a direct relationship between adult/teen relationships and teen behavioral outcomes. The study examines evidence of links between alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking and other risk taking behaviors.  This project identifies the many issues confronting Orthodox Christians teens. The educational setting emphasizes storytelling and examination of domestic rituals.  Participants also created worship-centered rituals enacting these life themes.  The paper examines power relationships as sources of value, understanding and the ability to act.  It discusses ritual theory and practice.
