The GXMT consisted of eight Gen Xers who were equipped by the director. This equipping process included group meetings, exposure to other worship services, assigned books, periodicals, audio tapes and web-sites, as well as personal observations and reflections. In this project the participants identified a population segment whom they sought to reach through high quality ministries. They examined the mission of the church and organized its ministries around its purposes.  They identified their own spiritual gifts and discovered ways for using gifts to facilitate quality in ministry.  The participants surveyed the ministries, and facilities of their church for areas in need of quality improvements, and developed a plan for making necessary upgrades. The thesis sets forth a description of the current context of pastoral care (Introduction).  It then explores the background out of which this form emerged (Chapter 1).  Chapter 2 details the essential elements of Community Based Spiritual Care.  It cites situations and skills one needs for such care and suggests educational models for teaching its practice.  The chapter ends with several brief summaries of emerging and developing programs of Community Based Spiritual Care. Doors of reconciliation can be opened by the grace of God. The interpretative work of DeVaux, Boadt, Clines, and Brueggemann were threaded together using the metaphor of a wedding.  A new inclusive pronoun for God (HH-it) was introduced. Descriptive analyses of eleven interviews provide the experience component for the method of practical theology proposed by James and Evelyn Whitehead.  The guiding question is 'How can the cultures of late Generation X undergraduates, their approaches to reflection, and Ignatian spirituality contribute to transformative reflection on service?' The construction process presented natural opportunities to encourage change while the parishioners concretely considered their comprehensive needs. A newly formed committee met monthly to reflect upon congregational renewal in five areas: worship, youth ministry, guest friendliness, outreach, and community relations. They also planned worship programming to transition from the former to the new church facility. Interviews, surveys, and the planned church services revealed that renewal had been initiated in the five areas.
