The project is a slice of a ten-year effort to bring organizational change to a state denomination of churches affiliated with the Dakota Southern Baptist Fellowship. The change needed was to multiply the number of churches. The primary means of accomplishing this change required the enlistment of a force of professional church planters to lead in the designing and implementing of regional strategies for the starting of new churches. This force was found in the existing positions of the Associational Missionaries. After a discussion of the shifting American cultural context and a socio-historical overview of Christian initiation, the scriptural notion of the Pentecost Christian community is related to the demands of the RCIA text and the ecclesial models of Avery Dulles. Using a feminist approach to qualitative methodology, nine diaconal ministers were interviewed to examine their reasons for choosing ordination.  Personal and systemic reasons emerged, including sense of calling, need for education and employment security, career development, contextual influences and church policies. Sexism and the marginalization of diaconal ministers were factors. Shame can be unhealthy when it takes the form of abusive 'shaming' behavior.  This thesis examines honor/shame from theological, biblical, socio-anthropological, and family systems perspectives.  Interventions include Bible study, worship, a task force to study the history and mission of the church, group norms for church officers, and a book review/discussion group.  These interventions or similar ones tailor-made for a particular congregation can be applied effectively in other locations. The theological and theoretical basis for small group ministry guides the development and deployment of eight small groups. Assessments of these small groups come from participants' responses to evaluation questionnaires that indicate that the project is a success. This project proposes an assimilation plan based on adult Sunday school classes reorganized into life stage communities. These communities will provide a network of care and ministry. Eleven classes were involved. Two of the classes were chosen to pilot the plan. Of the remaining nine classes, six embraced the plan in a limited manner and three resisted change. The thesis is that there is a need for greater cooperation between the medical community and the church.  Screening and education performed in church stetting would be a help to both parishioners and doctors.  Questionnaires used revealed interest among clients and volunteers.  On that basis, a clinic was begun and observed for a period of two months.  The project demonstrated that health-related screening and education was of benefit to both medical and church communities.
