Based on the belief that all human beings are created in the Image of God, and therefore must be given a full measure of love and dignity, the MoCo Pride Center is a way of reaching out to a community long marginalized by many churches. The intersection of faith and community building is one of the main themes that runs through this project. It also challenges the practice of sending people elsewhere, outside of Montgomery County, for needed services rather than addressing those needs within the county. The purpose is to determine if the presence of a mentoring program is beneficial and to ascertain the spiritual fitness of associate ministers.  Mentoring is one of the treatments for this problem. The hypothesis is that associate ministers are often untrained, and unprepared to ascertain their call to ministry, if they are prepared, trained and mentored they will be more effective in their call to ministry.  A quantitative research method will be used involving surveys. As a result, the Black church, in many cases, has become irrelevant on social issues that affect the communities where they are located. To ascertain these practices the author studied the biblical and theological foundations of preaching and leadership and historic and contemporary voices in the tradition of Reformed Presbyterianism and Westminster Theological Seminary. Congregation members attended a community development conference, participated in small group book studies, and engaged with a blog focused on an empowerment model of mission ministries. These activities prompted small but significant changes to existing ministries. The assessment of the project included the administration of both a pre-test and a post-test questionnaire. The goal with the highest results revealed an increased awareness of listening as an active form of communication. Increased awareness as to the role active listening plays in achieving successful outcomes was also noted.
