The project makes no claim that group spiritual guidance is the only way to draw closer to God, but with minimal education for the initiator such groups can be incorporated into churches. The metaphor of Christian pilgrimage as a biblical and historical model complements this ascetic spirituality. The project combines theoretical study of biblical, historical, and theological concepts of pilgrimage with an actual pilgrimage.  Questionnaires and journal reflections of partipants relate the project to contemporary practice of spiritual direction.
