This project assists a small group of Christians to grow in knowledge and understanding of the Sermon on the Mount, demonstrating and applying this knowledge and understanding in their lives. This project produces a study guide to be used by group members in daily family instruction. Weekly learning activities involve entire families in discipleship, supplemented by a sermon series in the local church. This project examines theological, biblical, historical, and practical arguments for house churches as  the only right way to be the church, placing them in the contexts of doctrine and culture. African American 'first churches' grew and blossomed, reflecting the diverse population, interests, and concerns of the African American community and practicing ministry from 'down-under' as Jesus did.  Taking Asbury United Methodist Church as an example of an African American first church in Washington DC, this project studies how such churches began and developed while explaining why many of them have become middle class enclaves with a privatized religious expression.  Their corporate ministry is private and detached, concerned with the institution's internal environment.
