The author discusses how this spirit leads the preacher to open up her or his private world to the stranger.  Sermon discussion groups, interviews, and journal writing were used to uncover what is helpful and what is not helpful when preaching among people who are not connected by common history or tradition, nor by ties of friendship of family. Employing the language of personality and temperament types as a vehicle for discussion, a strategy is suggested which brings preacher and hearers together in a small group format, enabling each to enhance their skills in hearing the Word of God by listening to one another. This project sought present attitudes on this problem through 213 pastor and 313 layperson questionnaires sent to churches within the Cape Cod Council, and random samples of the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ and Hyannis Federated Church.  Seminars were held for the respondents. Laotians who convert to Christianity are considered to be traitors to their family, their country, and their king.  To be a good Laotian, one must be a faithful Buddhist throughout life.  The author, who is Laotian, has developed a method of presenting the gospel, which contextualizes Laotians' understanding of God. Family ties are the most important factor in Lao culture and custom. Therefore, the author used the concept of God as the Creator and Father of mankind, which led 32 out of 50 people to the Lord. The project utilizes qualitative methodology as three clergy women survivors of domestic violence are interviewed and complete written questionnaires.  The results indicate that the relationship with God, which the woman experiences during the time of the abuse, is harsh and judgmental. Moving beyond the abuse, her God-image, the relationship with God, and her sense of self is transformed. Second, a series of five sermons and five growth seminars were conducted with some married couples and persons contemplating marriage. Third, pre- and post-questionnaires were distributed in order to assess the understanding of what is being discussed.  From the comments that were made, the program seemed to have been a success.  Couples expressed improved mutual understanding and a desire to learn more.  The participants reached a better understanding of mutual intimacy, effective communication, mutual forgiveness, and marital maturation.
