After enlistment, leaders and members participated in pre-tests and post-tests to determine learning levels. The seminar was led by the author and was intended to lead each participant to be able to identify their leadership style. Motivational principles were studied and each participant identified how their leadership style affected the motivational level of their followers. Research was conducted on leadership styles that were Christian in basic orientation. While a plethora of secular leadership styles were studied, the concern was for Christian leaders. Motivational principles were based upon Maslow's hierarchy of needs and how Christian leaders can evaluate the needs of followers. The study revealed that a 'democratic' or 'body leader' leadership style was most effective in aiding the motivational level of followers. A balance of 'task' and 'relationship' was also best demonstrated in the 'body leader' style."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["dacf5c07-78c8-4937-a01a-26cd044f9625"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135283507363840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:48:37.090Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:22:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:32:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1e88b3c6-4dae-4ee9-81f8-671e83af1b2b","accessControl_ssim":["be1e5504-4c9e-4b36-acb9-f438c8364edc"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The fire of thought: a double hermeneutic for preaching as pastoral care"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:22:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:02:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["469848e6-871f-411d-962f-86e6a84bff03"],"hasLease_ssim":["3a7dcea6-027d-4d57-b574-9ce4a5e13523"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Andrew Purves"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph W Patterson"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["System theory","Object relations (Psychoanalysis)","Pastoral theology","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project demonstrated the role of behavioral sciences, specifically systems theory and object relations theory, as interpretive of the congregation in preparation for preaching. This study describes how the researcher presented Merton's understanding about the Cross to a group of adults who were struggling with issues related to their journey through mid-life. Two procedures were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention: a qualitative approach involved the use of free-story interviews, anecdotes, and comments by the participants; and, a quantitative approach was utilized which involved the Spiritual Well-Being Scale. The spiritual well-being inventory did not indicate any statistically significant changes for the group in any of its measures of religion, existential or spiritual well-being. However, the data gathered by more qualitative approaches indicated that this intervention can have an impact upon the lives of adult lay people. Personal conversations with the participants provided evidence that because of the curriculum intervention and the prayer retreat at the Abbey of Gethsemani, Merton's understanding of the Cross impacted their lives."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134833610588160,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:41:28.034Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:22:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:41:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f6150fc6-d155-4988-bf31-d0c550ea8b9f","accessControl_ssim":["d9490911-09a9-44f2-9c98-9e5034e7fd48"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sharing the ministry: a systems approach for faith communities"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:22:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:09:29Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c2cd52d1-7cbc-41cd-a1fe-fd3e5011b493"],"hasLease_ssim":["97ac02cd-fde5-4f93-b694-3308004aa6a2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities"],"advisor_tesim":["James B Nelson"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jean Morris Trumbauer"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities"],"subject_tesim":["System theory","Lay Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis addresses the challenges of inviting members into the shared ministry of the congregation and sustaining their ministry involvements.
