It involved the enlistment of and ministry to persons who were struggling with distresses brought on by being forcefully terminated from their places of employment.  This was a specifically designed support group ministry. In equipping believers to exercise discernment, hermeneutical training addressed the divine/human nature of Scripture and provided a model for interpreting Scripture given that nature.  Theological training explored the character of God, human free will and divine wrath, the covenant of grace and faith, and the transformational nature of salvation.  A model to use in exercising spiritual discernment was developed and practiced. The author sought respondents from a sample of greatly growing, a sample of moderately growing, and a sample of plateaued or declining Church of God congregations.  Sermons in greatly growing churches were significantly stronger in relevance/practicality, vision, a basis in God's Word, and focus of thought compared with sermons in moderately growing churches. The project shows how the bilingual preaching ministry can be performed.  The primary content of this field project report is the sermons the author preached in both English and Korean during the four months of the project along with reflections and analysis of the project.  He preached the core teachings of the Bible. The project consisted of five sessions with the young adult choir of Pendleton Street Baptist Church (Greenville, SC) in a retreat setting.  The group answered questionnaires and discussed how certain types of music met their spiritual needs and how it could be used to meet those of their generation.  The study concluded that hymnody, classical music and contemporary Christian music best met the needs of this particular group. Since that time, there has been little or no thought given to the subject.  This project seeks to explore the relationship between theology and play while addressing the question: Why does the church seem so reluctant to play?  An overview of play theology is presented including the thought of Huizinga, Moltmann, Keen, Berryman, and Johnston.  A discussion of psychological play theory is included considering the work of Freud, Piaget, Sutton-Smith, and Winnicott.  This overview shows both common points of understanding as well as important distinctions in play theory.  A new perspective of play is offered that focuses on the idea of God as the initiator of play as an act of grace and on human play as an appropriate response to that grace.  This new perspective presupposes a theology of love and freedom rather than fear and control. The many contributions of Glenn Bannerman are examined. As a practitioner rather than theorist, Bannerman embodies the new perspective of play in his methods and actions. Two questionnaires were used in a quantitative analysis: Parental Bonding Instrument (modified), and the Valuegenesis survey. The findings revealed that bonding factors for Adventist young people can be determined.  A reliable bonding scale was constructed from six items measuring commitment to Jesus, religious faith, the local congregation, and the denomination as well as frequency of attendance at worship services.  The scale had a reliability alpha of .81 with item scale correlations ranging from .45 to .72.
