The Afrocentric Mentoring Program demonstrates a culturally harmonious model of theological field education for African American students. A pre-test and post-test was administered on two representative groups of fifteen members of First Christian Church.  The experimental group was given four lectures on Campbell's pacifism in addition to a series of peace sermons.  The control group heard only the sermons. By examining Puritan and Indian relations in seventeenth century southern New England, this study demonstrates that Puritan theology fostered attitudes and a government policy destructive of Algonquin people in New England.  The failure to develop a just policy toward Native Americans in turn brought Puritan theology into conflict with itself and hastened the collapse of Puritan rule. The project for the study was an experiment in participatory preaching.  A control group selected from the congregation of the First Baptist Church (Elberton, Georgia) evaluated the effectiveness of four sermons preached at the church.  The sermons were examples of participatory preaching. Major symptoms included declining attendance, financial deficit, internal discord, and low morale.  Each area was impacted by initiating alternative concepts and practices drawn from Scripture and espoused by experts.  Five-year results show substantial progress in each problem area. A survey was developed to score degree of incorporation and assess the effectiveness of various programs through which new members could become incorporated.  Results were crosstabulated by gender, age, and scored degree of incorporation.  Analysis was done by comparing the results of members who joined by profession of faith, transferred from other United Methodist congregations, transferred from other denominations, and associate/affiliate membership. The thesis employs a methodology of oral history using as informants indigenous Methodist women.  It contains stories of Meru women who have borne the gospel to homes, families, villages, schools, and helped found churches and Christian movements.
