A survey of Christian doctrine written to address this need, with an emphasis on African problems, was published in 1992.  This study is an evaluation of the cultural relevance and the readability of that book in the opinion of the kind of secondary and post-secondary level African theological students who will likely use the book in the future.  The sixty-four participants in the evaluation were students from a Bible college and a seminary in Kenya and a Bible college and a seminary in Ethiopia.  The research sought answers to six research questions by investigating the response to two selected chapters in the book.  To get the information needed, the study used a written survey instrument and a focus discussion group at each test location.  A combined average of 77 percent rated the book as well contextualized. This work explores how systems theory can be employed by the pastor to help the couple understand the covenants in which they were nurtured and still participate.  The pastoral or hermeneutic circle was used as the author's methodology. This begins in pastor's experience of preparing couples for marriage.  The next element in this process was social analysis in which the author explored those elements of family systems theory and technique which were useful to the marriage preparation.  Then, the author engaged in theological reflection using the biblical concept of covenant as how notion of covenant can be beneficial for defining and interpreting contemporary Christian marriage. Lastly, a model of marriage preparation using family systems theory as well as the idea of covenant from a systems perspective is illustrated. To attain this, the author wrote a seminal guide entitled Masterculture.  Four families were chosen from very different cultural backgrounds, including American, Haitian, Chinese, and Guyanese.  The Masterculture seminar was then held over a period of three months.  It included weekly meals, Bible studies and studies in cultural anthropology. It questioned: attitudes of administration, faculty and students; practices in training students in theory and application of deliverance; and how better to train students?  The study discussed precedent biblical and historical literature.  A qualitative approach and case study methodology employed interviews, documentary evidence, and observations. Administrators, faculty and all interviewed students supported deliverance ministry training.  How to supply practical training posed problems. Several issues required more systematic research.  The case that seminaries should develop deliverance ministry programs was presented. The ten-week program consisted of a combination of group activity and lecture.  The group completed an open-ended narrative using selected vocabulary words.  Each member received five vocabulary words to contribute to the story line in successive group order using one word at a time. Lectures consisted of specific age-related topics of puberty. Descriptive survey methodology and statistical evaluations were used with an experimental and control group. Factors impacting assimilation were determined.  A ministry was designed.  A group of sponsors was enlisted and trained.  A test of the ministry was conducted.  Evaluation of the ministry was performed by means of descriptive survey methodology, simple statistical analysis, and critical pastoral reflection.  New members who had been sponsored showed a statistically significant increase (p = less than .1) in assimilation for three of the seven indicators tested.
