Second, to provide recommendations for the varied possibilities in curriculum and religious education of adults with mental disabilities in the local parish.  A study was made of the literature available concerning the theological underpinnings, curriculum and current programs. A self-help support group in the parish setting would assist in giving the needed support.  The author made use of her own experiences in leading cancer support groups, the resources of the Christian faith, and the results of a pilot cancer support group conducted in a church setting to write a guide for establishing such support groups in a parish setting.  Very strong bonding within the pilot support group occurred. Our shift from the right to the left socially and theologically has had a profound impact on the use of the intinerate evangelist at the end of the 20th century.  A survey instrument was used to determine the validity of this thesis.  The survey did not prove this thesis but did indicate the declining use of the itinerate evangelist. To facilitate the analysis, an evaluative grid was developed.  The grid was the interpretive tool used to determine changes in the presentation of the doctrine of sanctification.  Two main conclusions came about because of this study.  First, no significant theological change took place in the doctrine of sanctification as it appeared in the Revivalist. This dissertation examines current literature on Christian corporate worship as well as literature describing current cultural characteristics in the United States.  A six-week series of worship services was conducted incorporating the results of the study.  The services are then evaluated to determine if they have been culturally sensitive and ministry-effective.
