The theological basis for the product is on discipleship.  The nature of discipleship discusses the context of covenant expressed in relationship and service.  Research conducted in the area of small groups clarifies the nature and dynamics of small group ministry. The result of the research is a six-week program designed to teach discipleship through covenant relationship and spiritual gift discovery.  The project consists of two groups of eight to ten people. It briefly traces the historic use of participatory hymn singing and the development of new hymns. Research is centered around an analysis of the favorite hymns of members of a small Connecticut church with members from divergent denominational backgrounds.  The study includes congregational survey results and interview comments of respondents.  The author, a woman pastor, concludes that inclusive hymns concerning language, race and disabilities are important for all people, especially those who have been marginalized from society. A conflict over keys underscores changing identity, leadership, power and authority issues in growing churches. Arlin Rothauge's 'pastoral' and 'program' church theory explains that change.  The author argues for a cyclical view of transition.  Four events on identity, spiritual formation, leadership and future directions are described. Modest success is shown in moving towards the program church.  A second conflict shows major success in becoming a program-sized church. Two groups received the same material on the book of Amos.  The traditional group was more passive and, consequently, did not learn as much.  The CAI group was more active in the learning process, and their scores were better. To accomplish these objectives a worship committee was formed.  Twenty percent of the congregation was interviewed and eighteen small groups shaped new patterns of worship.  In addition, several aspects of North Stamford's present worship life were compared to biblical, historical and contemporary expressions of Christian worship life.  After reviewing the data from the interviews and small groups, the worship committee discovered the importance of the traditional way of worshipping God at NSCC. Employing case studies, discussion of ethical decision making as portrayed in film and television, and role playing, a group of twenty persons was brought to an appreciation of the complexities in ethical decision making. The methodology consists of five parts: the description of Jewish-Christian intermarriage in the United States; a discussion of the chavurah movement in the contemporary Jewish scene; a history of the founding of the Interfaith Chavurah for Liberal Judaism in Greater Hartford; the synthesis of a goal attainment model based on the works of Donald Metz and Talcott Parsons; and, the account of the ICLJ's first year and analysis of its achievements.  Although the ICLJ was founded as a conventional congregation, its identity sometimes became ambivalent and bordered on an informal support group.
