Each church implemented strengths training after participating in a Gallup Member Engagement Survey (ME25). Mixed methods grounded theory research was used to compare the statistical data from each survey result to the qualitative data obtained from interviews of church members. The empowerment this brings may offset the feelings of helplessness, anger and disappointment among those adversely affected when their church building is closed. Relevant research in consolidations is brought into dialogue with Church documents related to liturgy and the place where it takes happens, as well as to scholarship on theories of space land place. A marriage seminar was provided for four married couples dealing with chemical addiction in their marriage.  The participants learned about formational prayer principles, core longings, dysfunctional behaviors and emotional attachment.  The results were measured using a verbal extent scale. Their congregations were tested before and after to determine the level of impact the training and mentoring provided.  The two 10-minute congregational surveys were conducted at Sunday morning worship services using the same pretest and posttest questions. This thesis-project articulates how African women in diaspora are able to transform their traumatic past so that their memories take on new meaning thereby renewing their lives. The researcher reviewed biblical healing literature and research literature on PTSD and trauma survivors. The researcher used descriptive research to interview seven Liberian refugees in order to discover related themes in their stories. The researcher designed a virtual community, 'Sawubona.' The participants discussed their interactions with the church. This dialogue identified perceived and real exclusions and discovered practical strategies that both the disabled and local churches can use to improve participation. Participants were interviewed before and after the project to gain insight into their experiences with participating in churches.
