The project used the Myers-Briggs Personality Index to understand positive differences between team members and enhance the team's strength through diversity. The team utilized business principles of 'silos,' and 'Mutual accountability' through the Oz Principle. Attitudes and behaviors of church members often tend to have an inward focus rather than an outward, invitational perspective. This dissertation examines the depth of this problem as well as the effectiveness of the implementation of a particular Bible study series as a tool for cultivating a healthy missional culture in the context of a specific congregation. Fifteen local Mennonite pastors were given a descriptive survey to help gather qualitative data to identify factors that may hinder their congregation's ability to effectively reach out to the local community. A similar survey was designated and administered to a test group of Towamencin Mennonite church members to assess the missional readiness of the congregation. From the data collected from these surveys, an eight-week Bible study series was developed and implemented as a research tool. Weekly surveys were used to assess the immediate effectiveness of each Bible study. A final survey was implemented at the end of the project to assess the effects of the Bible studies on the overall attitudes and behaviors of the group. As a result the congregation's ministries have not been aligned with any explicit overarching vision. Ministries were sometimes not sure how their particular activities aligned with the larger purposes of the church. A process was needed to bring the congregation's leadership together to start thinking strategically and plan the future ministries of the church around a shared vision. A strategic planning team led the process by conducting congregational surveys, meeting regularly to pray, studying survey results and writing new mission and vision statements. The outcomes of this project include new mission and vision statements, a willingness to align the ministries accordingly, and a more forward looking, visionary leadership. This project will use case study methodology to assess the following: Is humor appropriate in worship? Can humor in worship serve as a spiritual resource to promote healing after a community has suffered loss?
