Using a combined approach that incorporated what was learned from a survey of pastors and what was learned from personal study, a three-month reading program was prepared. Four expository sermons were preached, utilizing what was gleaned from the reading program. Surveys were administered to six members of the researcher's parish after each preached sermon. An analysis was done of the practice in Nebraska from 2000 to 2009. The knowledge and skill sets required by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church nationally were also analyzed. The current Nebraska practices and the national sets recommended were compared to best practice as seen in entry level seminary preaching courses. The practice in Nebraska and the national knowledge and skill sets were found to be inadequate and an alternative curriculum was designed, taught and Visitors are struck by the welcome, the fellowship, the worship, and a sense of connecting with God. The project involves working with curriculum action research embedded within one-day ministry discernment events for laity. Measurement tools include a spiritual gift inventory, repeated measures Likert questionnaires, a short-term photovoice exercise, and semi-structured interviews. Clergy should and can embrace confidently the members of the media in order to enter into the reciprocity of a mutually beneficial relationship -- to spread the Word and to serve as a resource for the journalist. Planning an interactive day for members and explorers of the grail -- a spiritual movement based in Loveland, OH, this researcher included holistic methods as a means for sharing the story of the grail. Seventeen members/explorers attended the day-long retreat 'Eternal compositions: spiritual autobiography and the women of the grail' and engaged in creative modalities recounting the stories of the grail.
