It is nurtured through accountable relationships, good communication, awareness and understanding of re-entry stress, and the ability to manage change. A survey of a Mennonite German-speaking short-term mission program generated an important insight: Mennonite-Anabaptist core beliefs and practices can be a key factor in both teaching and action related to successful re-entry. The survey was conducted as an Appreciative Inquiry. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were used to interpret data. Using a qualitative research method the dissertation proposes that effective churches: (1) accommodate the cultural traits of self-centered American individualism; and (2) correct these traits. He enlisted two groups of participants in two cycles Action Research receiving feedback and input as the book was being written. He designed a Spiritual Assessment Questionnaire to assess thirty-eight categories of discipleship prior to and after the study. The results indicated a statistically significant increase in the level of theological grounding, of discipleship practices and improvements in the quality of the participants' soul life with God. To explore the role of denominations and discipleship, this thesis analyzes the relationship between traditional and contemporary forms of discipleship and denominational vitality. Specifically, it examines the role of the Advent Christian denomination in the lives of a group of worshippers at Northside Community Church. Using adult learning theory and social constructivism, this study reveals how one group of believers has constructed their organizational identities within the Advent Christian denomination and how relationships with other disciples who proclaim to follow Jesus Christ impact their system of beliefs. The project director studied key resources in order to determine the essential elements of an evangelistic preaching model and established a standard of research. The project director submitted the essential elements and the standard of research for review to experts in evangelistic preaching. Following the identification of the essential elements of an evangelistic preaching model, the project director developed four sermons based on the evangelistic preaching model. The project director then preached the sermons to the congregation of The Beginnings Church. The poject director enlisted volunteers who expressed a desire to lead short-term mission projects to participate in the training. The participants developed a proposed short-term mission project which will take place in the next two years based on the content of the training. Dr. Mike Edens and an international missionary evaluated the validity of the research. Dr. Sonia Carrington provided expert advice and a critique of the curriculum and the project director's increased knowledge of curriculum design. The third phase of this project was the implementation phase where the project director presented the curriculum during seven training sessions. Teaching methodologies included lecture, group discussions, participant interaction, and visual illustrations.
