Through multiple interviews at sites in Oregon and Washington, the author discovered that welcoming newcomers requires the church to adopt a missional mindset that serves the community. Congregants individually serve where the community sees a need and build relationships that provide a basis for introducing friends to Jesus. Consequently, a description of the Chinese pastoral leadership role in missions mobilization was constructed, through integrating the findings from interviewing the research participants with a comparative study of some biblical characters in both Old and New Testaments, the teaching of Christ on servant leadership, and the Chinese traditional paradigm of paternal headship.
