It comprises assessing the family's relationship and their ability to support the inmate prior to their release from prison and reduce ex-offender recidivism. The researcher employed a six-week intervention model to assess the family's preparation. It highlighted challenges that families experienced in supporting ex-offenders and identified potential barriers. A qualitative research methodology was used to gather data from 37 respondents using interviews and questionnaires. The thesis of the project was that members at Longview Point were trained to share their faith using a canned presentation but were not confident in answering objections. They needed a foundation in apologetics to engage people in prolonged spiritual conversations. It included the writing of a handbook to guide pastors in caring for people in times of loss. The author revised the handbook using significant feedback from pastors and funeral directors and supported it with biblical, theological, sociological, and psychological studies. The handbook provides practical advice from the pastor in crises, condensed guidance for funerals, and a primer on grief, including the years following a crisis. An annotated bibliography recommends further resources for the busy pastor. A psycho-educational group was developed that educated on: tough love; tough love mirroring biblical love; tough love helping their spouse; the implementation of tough love; and the modification of one's own behaviors. Fifteen raters (n=15) assessed the project resource via an assessment tool. The seminar taught foundations for spiritual care, understanding older adults, basic guidelines for visitation, and the skills of listening spiritual assessment, prayer, and the use of scriptures. The project succeeded in training 38 individuals and deploying nine volunteers who provided 315 visits to residents.
