A participant's guide was developed by the researcher and was integral for the project. Qualitative and quantitative research methods included pre-assessment and post-assessment questionnaires, personal interviews, various inventories, researcher observation, dialogue, reflection tools, vocabulary tests, and discernment. To maximize long-term retention, active learning engaged experiential metaphors and embodied practices. The purpose of the project was to assess the value of using a covenant to enhance the relationships between these pastors in Chinese churches in the San Francisco Bay Area. Data collected by survey, personal interviews, and and interactive seminar showed an overall positive opinion about the use of a covenant between the pastors. Ten key issues for improving preaching were identified and will become the focus of twelve issues of the Preach the Word newsletter received by WELS pastors. Holy listening, in verbal and contemplative prayer, scripture, faith stories, and personal interaction, was studied through qualitative data collected from the youth. Confirmation content (scriptural, historical, denominational and congregational) became stories which were part of the teens' own spiritual journey and story as they confirmed their baptism. Treatment included a sermon/workshop series re: biblical hospitality in postmodern culture. A post-test was administered which showed significant shift in the attitude of those who were in the core group. The main content of the resource came from Dr. Terry Wardle's books concerning healing care and spiritual formation. The resource was evaluated by seven caregivers (ordained pastors and licensed counselors) in the field of healing care groups. The mean for the twenty-one qualitative questions was 6.44 out of a possible 7.00, suggesting that the resource received a highly favorable evaluation. That vision is 'A tithe of Roseville.' The need of this project is to begin mentoring, training, and establishing a leadership structure that will facilitate the realization of this vision. A nine-session training and mentoring session was conducted to provide the leadership team a foundation in core functions of the church and leadership principles and theory which will improve their effectiveness in the core area they serve. This culminated in their production of a one-year discipleship plan in which leaders oversee, mentor, and train leaders and teams in an intentional strategy of goals and objectives which will align all functions with the mission and vision of the church. Pre-tests and post-rests provided measurable observations. A survey revealed that Top Gun was instrumental in the respondents' lives and made an instant change in their spiritual disciplines and in their relationships with their families, work, and Christian service. Unfortunately, the survey also revealed that many men fall back into old habits through time, thus showing the need for ongoing relationships, discipleship, and accountability. The hypothesis was that a multifaceted revelational homiletic model combining gift awareness and a personal invitation would affect lay activity levels in the local church positively. A spiritual gift inventory, three sermons, and organizational invitations tested this hypothesis. Change was measured quantitatively through a pre/post test and qualitatively through the interview process.
