Methodology includes: (1) Attending to woman's experience affecting her sense of self; (2) Deconstructing patriarchal dominance and violence impacting woman's sense of self (gender wounds); (3) Reconstructing a feminist interdisciplinary conversation between relational psychology (Jean Baker Miller, relational cultural theory), and relational theology (Rosemary Ruether, Carter Heyward). The marriage seminar was designed to be biblical in every aspect, avoiding all eclecticism. Chapter 1 introduces the goals, purposes, rationale and limitations of the project. Chapter 2 defines marriage from a biblical perspective and specifies its purposes and parameters. Chapter 3 discusses the problems of idolatry, self-centeredness, sinful communication and unbiblical views of love. The Biblical solutions to these problems are addressed. Chapter 4 is a summary of how this project was conducted. The research procedure evaluates the experience of the participants who have received this training. It looks at the data before and after the seminar in these four areas and statistically establishes the reliability of the conclusions. Questionnaires were used successfully to elicit the marital experiences of people in the writer's pastoral charge. Narrative and cognitive behavior therapies are set forth as approaches that can help to heal the wounded in congregations. The project, an intensive, 11-day small group experience conducted over nine months, was self-directed. Written case studies, coaching, videotaping, and peer and supervisor feedback were utilized. The method of research was interviews with alumni of the program. Wallace Hamilton an effective deductive preacher so that contemporary preachers may improve the effectiveness of their own preaching. This project also discloses the characteristics of Hamilton's preaching, which would be ineffective for the contemporary preacher. Fred Craddock's inductive preaching method informs my critique of Hamilton. Research for this project includes interviews with those who heard Hamilton preach, analysis of Hamilton's sermons, and feedback from those who listened to sermons by Hamilton and Craddock.
