Yet today in our increasingly urbanized world, young people are less able to experience the wilderness.  Young people today are unsure how to engage a world of poverty, religions, violence, and clashing civilizations.  Thus, young leaders need reflective dialogue toward a theology of apprenticeship for missions.  In the past 15 years the author has spent nearly a year in the wilderness with groups of young people. The project consisted of survey, seminar, training and follow-up with churches. As a result, church leaders and Sunday school teachers were challenged and changed attitude toward children's ministry. However, in order to implement effective children's ministry, more is required than changed hearts of leaders. In parish ministry, every clergy person eventually faces this critical question from grieving families. Despite the pastoral urgency of this question, little attention has been paid to the types of beliefs about heaven held by mainline church members. This project identifies the issues of preaching readiness, develops a readiness formula, and provides for the preaching pastor a tool for structuring a personal readiness routine.  The research design combines an analysis of preachers in the Bible, a content analysis of homiletic literature, a readiness journal, dialogical interviews with preaching pastors, and a self-study instrument for preaching readiness field-tested by ten preachers. An analysis of the responses served as the basis of a report given to the administrative leadership that they might develop a plan to provide a more beneficial experience for students who are facing diversity issues now and in the future.  Results indicated that qualitative research is warranted. This project compares member tabulated results against director evaluations for Iranian adult and Afghan youth disciple groups meeting separately over the course of eight weeks.
