Participants chose practices ranging from journaling to spending time with their families for a three-month period. The project argues that this Sabbath time would increase participants sense of being held together in Christ (against fragmentation) and that the Covenant dimension would increase their fellowship with others (against individualism and privatism)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Hartford Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8e52e4c8-38b6-4846-872d-a744b4f5725d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125915880652800,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:19:43.425Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:09:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:40:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"588a3d15-53e9-4dcc-bfa2-928b841c0b12","accessControl_ssim":["73f0ad24-2437-4fb2-a8f5-0b3662a3a68f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping a select group of married couples at Shepherdhill Baptist Church, Lagos, Nigeria, in communication skills to strengthen marriage relationships"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:09:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:43:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b29ceb98-0e00-4c8a-a20b-f8056a9d5eb2"],"hasLease_ssim":["dcec93c5-09c5-4909-a960-cc12a778af2b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Reggie R Ogea"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Olatubosun Taiwo Ayinde"],"publisher_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Marriage--Religious aspects--Christianity--Baptists","Shepherdhill Baptist Church (Lagos, Nigeria)","Pastoral theology--Baptists","Marriage counseling","Interpersonal communication"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project was informed by the growing number of marriages that are neither dead nor alive. They are not dead because both husbands and wives still live together; they are not separated or divorced. The marriage is not alive either because the union has become sour, bitter, and burdensome. In the search to find out how best to reverse this trend, communication skills stand out as one solution. The project is a research into literature from leading authorities in both secular and religious communities on communication skills with particular reference to strengthening marital relationships. Care was taken in the selection of materials to assure sound biblical foundation. The materials selected were used to develop lesson plans for training couples in communication that leads to relationship building. The purpose of this project was to train a select group of married couples of Shepherdhill Baptist Church, Lagos, Nigeria in communication skills to strengthen marriage. The training sessions focused on developing participants in communication that builds up relationships with the overall goal of producing a healthy marital relationship that leads to security and stability of Christian homes. The focus of the project is on verbal, face-to-face, communication between couples. Hence, the discussions during the seminars emphasized components of communication such as listening, self disclosure, and transparency. As the project progressed, it became obvious that participants, though vast in Bible knowledge, pay very little attention to applying biblical principles to their lifestyle. This meant that the discipleship programs which many of the participants attended and their personal Bible studies emphasized head knowledge rather than heart knowledge. What changes people is the application of Bible principles to everyday life, not just the hearing of the word, but the doing of the word. Therefore, the project emphasized application rather than theoretical knowledge of the Bible to achieve the desired goal. As a result of this finding, couples' ministry has been fully established in the church with monthly activities. These activities include continuous relationship evaluation, identifying strength and growth areas needed in relationship building, and teaching communication and conflict resolution skills that strengthen interpersonal relationships."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718824238383104,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:40:19.428Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:09:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:14:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"214014a2-c351-49c2-81cc-2073e6a89e54","accessControl_ssim":["b5efa00a-4793-4e28-b0ff-9c183cd6edae"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral leadership engaging cultural discipleship: one clergyman engaging transformation in sequential, distinct UCC congregations"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:08:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:07:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f0a46549-e0c8-4d19-997b-8b8c12e2053f"],"hasLease_ssim":["6a3af3dd-8b1c-48df-aa69-206772030cdf"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carl S Dudley"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kenneth Baily"],"publisher_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Christianity and culture","Evans, James H, 1950-","Social change"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Clergyperson engages two congregations with similar resources: discovers that their cultures are very different. The purpose was to facilitate Christian-Muslim dialogue in a post-9/11 America. The project brought together Christian women interested in engaging with Muslim women. The methodology speaks to the observation that Muslim women tend to speak more freely with groups that do not include men. As a result, the dialogue reached levels of exploration that involved faith, perspectives of justice, better understanding, and quests for peace towards loving one another through differences.
