What would it take for a congregation to experience that type of revitalization? Will a 'transformed' leader produce a 'transformed' church? Can the traditional disciplines of prayer, reading scripture, and experiencing true solitude and true community make a difference in the lives of busy, proud, 'know it all' Christians? I am convinced that significant spiritual transformation is possible in the church today -- and I have already begun to experience it at First Presbyterian Church. The most critical factor so far in transformation for this church has been personal transformation in the life of its pastor. This project attempted to promote spiritual transformation in the church by recognizing and supporting a continued process of transformation in the life of the pastor and by utilizing a family systems approach to change. Major steps included self-awareness and living into the person God has created; living into the particularities of one's giftedness and situation; utilizing long-held spiritual traditions of prayer, solitude, community and spiritual direction; living as a non-anxious presence and recognizing that one individual's change within the system forces the system itself to change. From the written responses of various individuals within and outside of First Presbyterian Church we can conclude that a spirit of transformation is alive in the congregation and in the lives of individuals there, as a result of the spiritual growth of the pastor."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128204858097664,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:56:06.364Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:07:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:07:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"974c351c-f0fd-4e3a-a200-822ddd356be1","accessControl_ssim":["4f35b2cc-b13a-4249-9a6a-5ed909e3b26d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The influence of the African American Christian experience on the Evangelical Covenant Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:07:52Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:33:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["44fd9bdc-554d-4ede-83ae-4b379933aed4"],"hasLease_ssim":["da276780-05e0-4b18-8cda-db2abad1a470"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles E Raynal"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert L Owens"],"keyword_tesim":["Religious surveys"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["African Americans","Church history","Evangelical Covenant Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper seeks to determine the extent to which the African American Christian experience has influenced the ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC). To measure the African Americans' influence in the Evangelical Covenant Church in the areas of worship, preaching, and social action, three survey instruments were designed and implemented. The worship survey was conducted among fifteen worship leaders. This group was chosen because they represent a cross-section of the denomination at large. The preaching survey was distributed to twenty-eight covenant preachers. This group was chosen based on this writer's knowledge of their ministry setting. The social action survey was designed to assess the African American social action influence. This survey was administered to six associate superintendents, three directors of church planting, and four superintendents, representing the eleven conference regions that comprise the Evangelical Covenant Church. This group was chosen because these individuals overseer more than 760 churches in the United States and Canada. This study will show how that The African American Christian influence is responsible for an expanding array of ministries at larger gatherings of the ECC and in local congregations. The data findings of this report supports the assumption that preaching in local congregations has a social focus, and that many congregations are moving toward a new consciousness that lives out their faith in word and practice."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128899608903680,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:07:08.929Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:07:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:27:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cac43be7-568f-408f-a4ca-a59912668af9","accessControl_ssim":["828932f3-5492-49ea-8c51-0a2cd93f0bdd"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Building an active Christian Single Adults Ministry (SAM) at Faith Baptist Church (FBC)"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:07:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:57:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f98c4a22-0fbe-4018-95cc-1734a75ceef7"],"hasLease_ssim":["67800916-ae0c-4ca8-9e8d-81295ec40123"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carl S Dudley"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Donald Lee Smith"],"publisher_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with single people","Faith Baptist Church (Coram, NY)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Single Adult Ministry (SAM) at Faith Baptist Church (FBC) was created primarily to address the spiritual, social and personal development needs of an increasing number of individuals living single. The findings provided such results and will prove beneficial for second-generation leaders and congregations in the process of--or contemplation of--independence in their quest for continued spiritual maturation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720596353843200,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:08:29.450Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:07:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:01:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a23cf1df-f156-4b28-b8a3-9695229611dd","accessControl_ssim":["5d749921-df41-411c-b73d-7e8bce019c05"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Shifting the margins to the center: reframing spiritual leadership for the American Church in Paris, France"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:07:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:51:29Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ac87af77-e207-4ace-8709-10a923f38cbb"],"hasLease_ssim":["aff33aec-307e-4ab8-83fd-d31e0f3e2e4f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert L Brawley"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Barry Paul Dawson"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","American Church in Paris","Church officers","Spiritual formation","Elders (Church officers)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Spiritual leadership is strengthened through the design and implementation of processes to train and install elected church council members for their church governance responsibilities.
