Even survivors who expected the death suffer and do not know how to deal with it. The death of their loved one demands they deal with the experience of death whether they want to or not. Many Korean-American pastors and congregations would like to comfort them but may not know how. Korean-American survivors may even be ignored by their pastors and churches. As a Korean-American chaplain, even I sometimes feel challenged to know how to care for them. I would like to see Korean-American people cared for by Korean-American congregations. But I also want Korean-Americans to be cared for by other Christians. My purpose in this dissertation is to help improve the way Korean-American pastors and their congregations care for survivors. The reader is led through a discussion of the communication eras ultimately to understand the secondarily oral society thriving in Appalachia today.  oral stories are recorded, transcribed, and edited for sermonic use in story sermons.  The results revealed the significant benefit to be gained through the use of story sermons within congregational settings. 'From Text to Talkies' is a workshop that introduced church leaders to the theory and theology behind digital communication, addressed some of the common concerns with 'jumping on that bandwagon,' and modeled ways to communicate the good news in the digital age, including traditional storytelling. Research information was obtained from personal interviews with church planters, books, articles and the Internet. Demographic and cultural information was researched in addition to a sermon series which was presented to the church.  The methods of instruction and preparation are presented so that every aspect of the process may be duplicated by other church planters. Using the story of Jacob wrestling with God in Genesis 32:22-31 as a backdrop against which we might view suicide in more compassionate ways, the author brings our attention to the graciousness of the Divine in matters of complexity, where there is grayness and a shadow side.  This is a phenomenological study that explores the concepts of 'blessing' and 'wound' - what it is like to live with 'both/and,' rather than overcoming, as Jacob needed to learn to live with both a blessing and a wound. An 1800 member congregation in Texas began welcoming puppies-in-training whose lives would eventually be lived as therapeutic animals for persons with handicapping conditions.  When the senior pastor became ill, one of the puppies helped her regain spiritual and emotional wellbeing, prompting a desire to investigate the development of a ministry with therapy animals.
