This practice has roots in our denominational history, but is not widely practiced in our chucrhes today. The practice of testimony strengthened lay leadership, fostered more intimate community and transformed the congregational culture. This practice led us to be more aware of other practices of the faith. It revitalized worship, and prompted changes in our liturgical life as well. It was also designed to provide a forum and to create an atmosphere in which Christian characteristics could be incorporated into Christian lives.  The project was conducted in the church through twenty-four sermons on Christian character development and character traits found in biblical personalities.  A study group composed of an inter-generational cross section of the congregation participated in twelve studies and three in-home fellowship meetings. As a result of this research, a new six-week program of spiritual formation based on Jesus Christ as our spiritual pathway is now being regularly offered. Adults gather to reflect and share with one another spiritual topics affecting their lives. In the perspective of the American experience, the elements, benefits, and challenges of small faith groups are described. Research indicates that small faith groups have an impact on the faith life of adults. The spirituality in small faith groups is explored in connection with Franciscan values. In most congregations less than 3% of their membership attend the Sunday services. Many attempts to establish new forms of contemporary worship have failed, either because the approaches were too demanding and time consuming or because they were focused on limited target groups and therefore could not have an impact on the congregation as a whole. Based on a creative adaptation of the biblical and Lutheran liturgical heritage the author has developed and implemented a new form of worship that has proved to be effective, appealing and visionary. Ch. 1 affirms the need to revision the mentoring ministry and presents several goals to help bring about the revisioning. Ch.2 addresses the biblical rationale for revisioning the mentoring ministry. Ch. 3 brings out that the idea of mentoring is being embraced by the world, which gives credence to the rationale of the project. Ch. 4 concentrates on the steps taken to implement this ministry research project. Ch. 5 is an evaluation of the ministry project. Surveys went to clergy, and to inter-denominational families assessing the impact of denominational identity, prevalence, acceptance of inter-denominational families, the influence of congregational size, ministerial attitude, and individual family perceptions. Three findings resulted. First, participating inter-denominational families were long-time or life-time members of their faith communities. Second, inter-denominational families are present in most churches regardless of size or denomination, and they garner spiritual enrichment from all church communities in which they participate. Narrative liturgical sermons were preached over a three-month period in a large Catholic church. Small group interviews were done with a total of forty-one parishioners.
