He tested this through eight, one-hour, weekly, teaching sessions, a four-hour prayer retreat, and by requiring that participants lead a prayer meeting solo.  The results indicated that participants showed growth toward that end.  The Project Director learned valuable lessons regarding teaching for leadership skills, which is markedly different from teaching for content. The training sessions emphasized a shared ministry and equipped the participants to serve in their appointed ministry according to their SHAPE (spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experiences).  The project director taught instructional material concerning the biblical concepts of leaders and assigned the purpose-based teams to perform their ministries according to the church's five purposes: (1) Worship Team, (2) Fellowship Team, (3) Discipleship Team, (4) Ministry Team, and (5) Evangelism Team.  The objective was accomplished through a blended approach of research, sermon series, and training sessions. This dissertation proposes that pastors conscientiously plan and present corporate music accessing insights from educational theory. Pastors in three churches of different sizes and demographics in the San Francisco Presbytery were interviewed. Hundreds of pastors and educators from Canada and the United States were interviewed in groups.  Literature was reviewed in the fields of the theology of music; educational theory; music the Reformed tradition, and current socio-cultural trends. Finding ways to ease the fear of change can help people be more receptive to learning.  Provide information in a variety of ways.  Involve people in the interpretive process. The project director researched the subject matter and gathered the information needed to develop and train the participants in building a strategy.  He equipped the strategy building group to develop a strategy to reach unchurched young adults in South Tipton County.  The project director and the strategy building team presented the proposed strategy to the congregation. The theoretical foundation for the study is in adult education and examines concepts of experiential and transformative learning, processes of meaning-making and the social construction of the self, as well as the centrality of narrative and autobiography in personal learning. Theological reflections focus on the social and historical conditions of learning in the Christian community, the narrative structure of faith, and the contributions of both narrative and biographical theology to an understanding of Christian identity and change. The research methodology used is qualitative case study guided by Mishler's narrative approach to research interviewing. Five participants were interviewed with an attempt at gender equity and variety in denominational attachment. Results reveal the intense relationship between personal change, vocational identity and ministerial practice. The study demonstrates the extent to which lifelong themes were translated into ministerial practice, how trauma impacted the learning process, and the contribution of faith to learning. Kirk of the Hills, a PCA church in St. Louis, Missouri, is currently using the model for pastoral care as proposed for large churches.  Questionnaires were completed by those in leadership and by active church members to determine the degree of effectiveness of pastoral care.
