The goal of this project is to critically examine, define, and detail one of those new methods called 'Prescriptive Preaching' whose goal is to provide its listener with explicit and helpful actions, prescribed and exemplified in a specific biblical narrative, which empower and equip the listener to cope with a relevant life issue. This methodology is currently being successfully used in the preaching life of St. John's Congregational Church, a 1,300 member black church comprised mainly of this new generation of black churchgoers. Through reflection on the creation, delivery, and evaluation of eight project sermons, the integration of residency course work, and committed discussion on the same with St. John's members in a Parish Project Group this project seeks to discover and establish the guidelines, goals, theological, biblical, and homiletical foundations and exegesis, and preparatory process that informs the methodology of prescriptive preaching. Responses of 34 participants indicated that the provision of programs and activities were a major factor in influencing youth toward participation in the church.  A significant number of the participants felt wanted and needed in the Church. This qualitative study was designed to observe the impact such a class would have on a small group.  The format was group discussion based on class handouts of questions with both written and practical assignments.  All participants were interviewed twice, and four were selected for a final interview.  Impact varied highly, but was generally limited by both the course length and the lack of one-on-one time. This particular retreat was held in western North Carolina during the fall of 2002. There were twenty-nine participants and fifteen staff who attended the retreat.  There was a daily rhythm established of proper nutrition, educational elements, worship times, play, and small group dynamics.  The participants learned about the importance of diet, exercise and mental health in living with a terminal disease.  They also learned about the importance of story, personal and sacred.  The participants had opportunities to experience God's love through accepting attitudes, unconditional love and agape gifts.  Relationship building activities were conveyed through small group dynamics and community activities in the craft area. Three goals were set up, measured and achieved during this retreat.  Participants experienced reduced anxiety. Participants had an enriched experience of their belovedness in God.  Participants gave voice to their spiritual deepening.  There were positive changes recorded in each of these assessed goals. Twelve adult participants completed the twelve-week leadership training program that was primarily developed from the meta-model.  A battery of instruments was used to assess the effectiveness of the program and skills acquired by the participants. Revival is defines as the reanimating of much of the church by the extraordinary work of God,  The view of revival is distinguished from two other views of revival. Church leaders (pastors, elders and other primary leaders) in their attempts to understand and work through conflict may well exacerbate unseen systemic precursors to the conflict.  Rather than the many positive gains that can be achieved through conflict resolution, the church may be left with 'chronic conflict' that is not readily resolved by conciliation and problem-solving.  In these circumstances, a systemic understanding of organizational life is considered to be most helpful.  Family systems theory (or Bowen theory) is one such systems theory of organizational life that is particularly appropriate for use within the church. Dr. Murray Bowen is the originator of this theory and his understanding of organizational systems forms much of the theoretical basis of the project. The project applies Bowen theory to caoching church leaders through one-on-one interviews and a day-long group session.  The church leaders were from various Christian denominations in the Vancouver metropolitan area of British Columbia, Canada and each one reported experiencing 'chronic conflict' in his individual church. Guided imagery prayer can heal the shame women feel. The process used was a spiritual retreat for women. They were led in guided imagery meditations of four healing stories of Jesus: the healing of the bent-over woman (Luke 13:10-17); the healing of Jairus' daughter (Mark 5:21-24a,35-43); the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years (Mark 5:24-34); and the woman at the well (John 4:4-30). After each exercise they participated in a discussion about their experience. The retreat was a positive experience for each woman. Some of them felt healing that day. Few of them continued to use the meditations by themselves after the retreat.
