The emphasis was upon supplementing conventional components of stress-management by allowing spirituality to influence perception of untoward events. the bias is that each individual possesses a spiritual core, and therefore, any effort to manage stress minus such an emphasis is truncated, and with limited effectiveness. The relational nature nature of the concepts of imago Dei and compassion provide theological justification and sufficient grounds for a nonsectarian approach in a secular environment. The theme of resurrection is explored from the vantage-point of those who first encountered it, Jesus' disciples and the early Christian communities, and then from the perspective of twentieth century liberation theology.  Knowing a community in which an itinerant preaches is resurrection preaching. The project thesis answered the question in the affirmative: 'Restorative Justice's Family Group Conferencing is a practice of shalom.' The project was to test the thesis. This was done in two ways: (1) by comparing the author's study of shalom with Family Group Conferencing, and (2) by a theological committee of shalom experts' evaluation of Family Group Conferencing. The shalom experts represented theologians from world religions where shalom is an important concept: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Both the author's study and the theological committee's evaluation of Restorative Justice's Family Group Conferencing agreed that Family Group Conferencing is a practice of shalom. Based on a survey of biblical material, relevant scholarship and a survey of members of the First Baptist Church of Pendleton, South Carolina, this project demonstrates that keeping the Sabbath is essential for remembering the identity and carrying out the mission of followers of Jesus.
