The issue of spousal abuse has combined with theological, biblical and socio-cultural misunderstandings. Misquoted Bible verses, exaggerated theological doctrines, and teachings in the church have added more guilt and self-denouncement to the suffering for victims of spousal abuse. This, in turn, provided the abusers with an excuse, a rationalization, and a justification for the abuse. It is time to clarify the wrongful misunderstandings and prejudices in the new millennium. We should open a new era of the church in Christ, as a model for God's reign, void of discrimination among Jews, Greeks, women, men, both slaves and free. At the same time, in Korean culture and surroundings, unless we change the dominant subordinating social structure that is patriarchal and gender exclusive, and shatter the systematic cultural structure, it is impossible to get rid of the roots of abuse which are deeply embedded in the cultures and lives of Koreans. This study attempts to clarify the realities of domestic violence, research the ways to help the abusers and the victims of spousal abuse, and establish such guidelines."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125653706244096,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:15:33.396Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:15:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:03:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ac640860-4812-4ab2-a6f8-7079575d954b","accessControl_ssim":["e35024d4-6f41-40cd-8da5-3facc8ce6256"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Joy stood high on the ceiling: celebrating the gospel in our place"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:14:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:06:46Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b94aa20b-76cc-4fe9-b70b-eef1bd5e9285"],"hasLease_ssim":["4e8273a9-a044-4664-a182-59026d0582c5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["North Park Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carol M Norén"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gregory S Mesimore"],"publisher_tesim":["North Park Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["African American preaching","Preaching--Study and teaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author's thesis is that preaching sermons that utilize the African-American celebrative preaching method can be transformative in a non-black context. This methodology pays particular attention to both the rational and emotional aspects of preaching and utilizes celebration as a culminating dynamic that brings these together and makes the sermon effective. Five sermons were preached using a particular African-American model for both preparation and proclamation that emphasized celebrating the Gospel. Immediate responses were solicited from congregants using a sermon feedback form designed to gauge the emotional impact and effect on behavior the sermon had. The reuslts revealed that this model does translate effectively into a non-black context where particular attention is paid to culturally congruent expressions of celebration. The study was done through qualitative means. Research was accomplished through interviews and community studies. The conclusion of the study was that the need for a safe place that offered help to students after school until the parents or caregivers returned home from the work place--a place that would teach character, tutor, mentor and be a positive place to hang out with their friends. The project gave a positive influence for the community as it opened its doors as a game room and tutoring/mentoring center for students after school. The involvement with parents and the community was also a positive outcome. Relationships were developed and lives changed by spending time and helping in ways that meet the needs of those involved. The study and implication of the BLOC House revealed to the author that communities are crying for someone to spend time with their families and help them live their everyday lives in a way that makes a difference and has purpose. This ministry project is based on the premise that most religious leaders generally use dated statistical materials, life changing stories, and personal experiences to raise awareness on the subject. The result of this ministry project (through personal interviews and questionnaires) discovered that religious leaders understand the Gift Exchange only in relation to the exchanging of personal gifts on special occasions and holidays. Thus, the conclusion gathered from this ministry project suggests that the Theory of Gift Exchange is an excellent pastoral model to educate about organ donation and organ transplantation. Finding from this study indicate that the dual purposes can be reached when the ethos of the preacher supports both processes."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127893294710784,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:51:09.234Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:14:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:43:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b4b7f2e0-ebd7-4836-af7c-167dbd65285b","accessControl_ssim":["b82e9f99-570e-478f-8b95-d02134222e2c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Using contemplation and guided imagery in lectionary Bible study at Glenburnie United Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:14:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:21:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bec86be2-a711-4736-a615-b79d7442e0ae"],"hasLease_ssim":["fa966e96-3ed7-40b7-8019-354a7642752a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard Parrott"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bruce E Sweet"],"publisher_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","Bible--Study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to deepen the experience of God in the daily lives of the people at Glenburnie United Church through the use of Bible Study using guided imagery. However, it soon became apparent that all the adults (men and women alike) would benefit from the implementation of a simple, concrete spiritual growth model. This led to the development of the five core values of the Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene: devotions, public worship, discipleship, service and witness. The development and implementation of this particular project was based upon scripture, informed by the Wesleyan-Holiness faith tradition and in response to the needs of 21st-century persons. The goal of the project: to establish a program that will help Wesleyan-Holiness people grow in Christlikeness and remain true to the core values of the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721398329933824,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:21:14.274Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:14:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:26:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d77e2afa-2a00-480f-88ba-12302eb61aaa","accessControl_ssim":["a8cdbbc0-6262-4df6-bd39-98919d278670"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The truth and twice told tales: sermons that retell biblical stories"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:14:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:17:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4a57308c-03bd-452d-8be1-22f8042a1e16"],"hasLease_ssim":["3ef19ac0-987e-4b8d-8ebb-63a7a1f1d371"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Connie M Kleingartner"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Larry Lange"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Storytelling--Religious aspects--Christianity","Preaching","Narrative preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The art of preaching by retelling or dramatizing biblical stories demands poetic license, which to many listeners/viewers and homileticians is incompatible with a sermon's burden of conveying 'the Truth.' In general, sermons necessitate interpretation, explanation, and application. In order to accomplish these things without adding didactic components to sermons which are presented as stories or dramas, the preacher must expand the text's events an characterization. This process, described in the thesis, is an exercise in poetic license. Exercising poetic license with biblical texts, however, raises a host of homiletical and hermeneutical issues, many of which are addressed in the thesis."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133917837787136,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:26:54.686Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
