This study was a quantitative, quasi-experimental study utilizing two churches and two groups within each church, one control and one experimental. The analysis of data collected from the Personal Involvement Inventory determined the impact of visual imagery upon the sermons' ability to involve congregants. The multi-case approach selected fifteen leading churches from among the fifty largest churches in the Portland, Oregon/Vancouver, Washington metropolitan area and conducted on-site interviews.  The major findings of this study were in three areas: personal relationships, intentionality, and small groups.  Personal relationships were the most significant reason why unchurched people were attracted to and stayed in church.  These churches were intentional in reaching lost people, welcoming visitors, and providing spiritual formation. The Ignatian method was used as a means to structure the program.  Holy Land imagery was also employed. This multi-case design studied five United Methodist churches of the Central Texas Conference that had an average annual growth rate of 7 percent for 1990-1999.  The findings were similar to what the Apostles experienced in Acts 6.  The pastors welcomed the laity in roles of leadership, as they opened up new roles of leadership.  The churches focused spending on people, as the twelve's focus was on people. A wide spectrum of leadership material from both sacred and secular sources was reviewed and analyzed.  The study includes interviews of eleven risk-taking leaders mostly from the area surrounding Houston, Texas. Data was gathered from a forty-one year period (1960-2001).  Members were administered the NCD Survey as a pretest and posttest.  Between the surveys, treatment was given for the church's two greatest weaknesses, Passionate Spirituality and Small Groups. The particular context of this study was General Association of General Baptists.  The participants were given a researcher-designed questionnaire.  The findings of this study demonstrated a positive relationship between church health and church growth. Proposed strategies were recommended.  Personal interviews were employed.  The findings of the study showed that, in various degrees, all the participants of short-term missions continued to intercede for missions. A collaborative dissertation team developed a survey tool that tested the health of the church and also discovered pertinent growth aspects in order to find the correlation between both.  I limited my study to a random group of churches in the West Ohio Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
