Through biblical perspectives on blessing, honor, shame, and loss, particularly in the experience of King Saul, the project guides participants to identify and confront the influence of shame and dishonor during and after a loss. Signs of shame and dishonor manifested during the study are disguised by feelings of worthlessness, failure, embarrassment, and inferiority. Seeking to develop a structure that is consistent with shared theological and ethical beliefs in equality, justice, mutuality, diversity, and community, the group members aim to engage in the process, make decisions by consensus, accept diversity, accept rersponsibility for group participation and process, and to become more self-revealing. The power equity group model works for small groups whose members have interest in and energy for process and are capable of personal insight. The team produces a theologically sound, biblically based mission statement and a vision statement containing 10 realistic, achievable five-year objectives.
