The project uses secular story and biblical story in a 'sandwich' technique borrowed from the Gospel of Mark in order to restore an imaginative, metaphorical perspective to Christian consciousness so that biblical narrative can be reclaimed as story. Based on the history of race relations and civil rights in Birmingham as well as the history of the two congregations, the project demonstrates that in relations between congregations each needs to learn about the other in order to find understanding, acceptance, cooperation, and sharing.
