This project proposes that the class-leader system can be a viable part of the AME Church, but it must be modified and shaped into a contemporary mechanism for ministry.  Lack of training of class leaders in Allen Chapel AME Church, Northampton County, North Carolina, proved to be the rule rather than the exception. The church was thereby rendered ineffective in its ministry. The project seeks practical ways to equip class leaders of Allen Chapel AME Church for effective ministry by formulating and administering a training program for class leaders. The workshop discovers similarities in human nature, life experiences, feelings, and needs between Western and Eastern traditions. Different traditional theological methods have one goal: to understand living human documents and meet human pastoral needs. Research identifies regional planning deficiencies among northeast Brazilian evangelicals. Training compensates by emphasizing group decision-making and problem-solving models oriented to church planting and leadership needs, especially dedicated to Vacation Missionary Projects (Promifé).  Research follows biblical-theological lines, using narrative passages of both testaments.  Theoretical investigation includes leadership, management, planning, education, church planting, training through coaching and small group dynamics.  Qualitative growth is observed among students. Student and instructor questionnaires were subjected to Chi-square, t-test analyses, and Aspin-Welch Unequal Variance t-test to measure felt equivalence. The project's ten-week seminar includes didactic sessions, individual assignments, and group dialogue.  Evaluation instruments include formal pre-test/post-test questionnaires and informal pre- and post-seminar interviews. As attention lapses, content retention decreases, resulting in diminished influence for the sermon.  This project proposes that introduction of tension into a deductive sermon will increase listener content retention.  Five sermons were preached with tension removed and five were preached to the same group with tension added.  Quizzes were administered to determine content retention.  A dependent groups t-test verified the thesis. Based on careful review of New Testament records of Christ's teaching methods, the project develops two sets of guidelines for teaching adults.  Method A uses a traditional and deductive approach.  Method B reflects Christ's methods of teaching and used a more inductive approach.  Two pastors each taught 12 classes using Method A and 12 classes using Method B.
