The project explores texts on preaching to determine the degree to which they see transformation as the purpose of preaching. Walter Brueggemann and Walter Wink offer insight into what transformation means and how it comes about. Transformative preaching seeks to help the listener move from the destroying way of dominant cultural values to the giving way of covenant rooted in neighbor love. The preacher evokes transformation with Scriptural images that offer alternative visions of how life can be lived faithfully and meaningfully. The project develops a model for preaching that will aid in the transformative work of pastoral ministry, and demonstrates this model in three sermons. The sermons are evaluated by a group that assesses their faithfulness to the model."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128644854218752,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:03:05.977Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:12:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:10:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b0f0462d-9376-4fbf-a208-f073c38a379e","accessControl_ssim":["452cf9ee-78d4-402d-a463-a25e2d99c699"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The challenge of nontraditional families in the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:12:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:14:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["22d4b6d6-7aaa-4bf8-8200-c16dc5d3bacb"],"hasLease_ssim":["07491f58-81ba-4c40-ac4e-ef29ea87a041"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Marcia Y Riggs"],"year_tesim":["1996"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Marni Politte Harmony"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with families","Family","Feminist ethics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["'Traditional' family structures are reflected in an increasingly small minority of families in Western culture. As 'baby boomers' reach the age when they might be expected to fill leadership roles in the church, the problems of the consumer culture attract new attention. Baby boomers commonly do not recognize marks of a true church as historically understood in Presbyterian/Reformed churches. Basing the Church's identity on these marks, this project studies approaches of Presbyterian ministers who promote and preserve true churches, in order to present their ideas to the elders of Saint Philip Presbyterian Church of Houston, Texas. The plan presented is applicable to all Presbyterian congregations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129108986462208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:10:28.608Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:12:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:18:41Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"10282e47-898d-4ebf-8a4d-6ca45fdb1570","accessControl_ssim":["db13ad83-3b80-47fe-bbac-b62ce21fb260"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Traditional and biblical phii concepts within the 'Church of Christ' in Northern Thailand"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:12:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:35:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["565a165d-5db1-4a1b-bef9-57f18d8a129e"],"hasLease_ssim":["aceeeabc-75a7-46e3-9c27-03785894d50b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert J Priest"],"year_tesim":["1996"],"location_tesim":["Thailand"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ernst Horn"],"keyword_tesim":["Christianity and Eastern religions"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions of Columbia International University"],"subject_tesim":["Church of Christ in Thailand","Demonology--Biblical teaching","Christianity","Religion","Spirits","Comparative studies"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Based on field research, this project examines the Thai spirit concepts of phii (pronounced 'pee'), including entities like malevolent/guardian/ancestor spirits and biblical demons.
