The basic material of this course was the life and teachings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, especially his emphasis on christological understanding. This project was conducted during an eight-week, two-hour seminar in the local church setting.  The class method involved lectures followed by suggested discussion questions and a final evaluation. The study used a case history method involving four cases drawn from the author's work as a hospital chaplain and as a pastoral counselor.  The histories were preceded by a theoretical investigation of the condition of depression and of pastoral assessment and treatment concerns. The hypothesis upon which the project was based is that there is a direct relationship between the adequacy of one's pre-hermeneutic and the adequacy of one's interpretation of biblical texts.  A course of study of the Gospel of Matthew was prepared and taught to members of a local congregation to test the validity of the hypothesis. Testing procedures were designed and administered to measure the results of the course and the degree of biblical literacy achieved. The hermeneutical process was taken from Paul Ricouer and the theology of stewardship was developed in reaction to Karl Barth's concept of 'true growth' in the community of faith.  A seminar based upon the shared Christian praxis approach was developed.  The seminar was held at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Calumet, Oklahoma. It consisted of lectures and written activities.  The seminar participants gained a new understanding of stewardship which was used to project avenues of action.
