Through historical research related to the founding of the BIC Church and to the BIC's theological roots of Anabaptism and Pietism the author identified six foundational beliefs. Genesis is an inner city community church located in Louisville, Kentucky. The intent of the project was to discover an approach having the potential to transform an introverted survival church into a vital faith-based urban empowerment center. Because Jesus demonstrated His bond with the disciples through footwashing and gave them instruction to wash each other's feet, reminding them of the connection they had in Christ and with each other for fulfilling Christ's mission, so Middle Pennsylvania congregations (a people whose ministry tradition is defined as a community through footwashing) who have come consciously or unconsciously to develop a secular understanding of District structure as Institution, are called to recover the identity of District Ministry as a network of partners communing with Christ and each other. The study set out to evaluate the perceptions of selected Free Methodist clergy and ality concerning the way that changes are impacting new members' discipleship. This study used both qualitative and quantitative research, utilizing 46 interviews and 162 survey questionnaires with no comparison group.  When new members have an increased understanding of the principles behind the standards of conduct held by the Free Methodist Church they also: 1) feel they belong to their local congregations and to God; 2) are growing in their spiritual maturity; 3) make the Christian conduct standards a part of their regular behavior; and 4) are growing in their relationships with Jesus Christ. A significant percentage of both clergy and laity observed new members feeling that they belong to their local congregations even though they have joined their churches under new membership requirements. The church should offer a system which helps individuals to identify and understand unique needs, interests, styles, and abilities, and directs them to appropriate opportunities.  Four theories--multiple intelligences, personality type, generational approach, and faith development--provide understanding of people, as well as vision for a more comprehensive system of adult religious education. The author proposes a four sermon 'process' approach, and identifies four characteristics of effective goodbye preaching.  Sermons and feedback from a parish project group are included in the supporting material.  A theology of leave-taking to undergird the process is also offered. The effect of positive faith on physical, mental, and spiritual wellness was tested.  Verbal and written responses of a group of twenty volunteers from the First United Methodist Church of Monahans, Texas to a series of sermons and positive coaching was the basis of this study.  The participants ranged in age from seventeen to seventy five. Youth feel left out of the preaching moment.  Youth will respond to preaching that tries to meet them at their level, lifts up their experience as ways a community experiences the divine, and fosters a sense of companionship on the journey of faith that all disciples make.  To date there has been little written in the field of homiletics about the youth and preaching. The metaphor of preacher as companion incorporates inviting youth to reflect on their own identities, nurturing the youth, and lifting up their experiences as ways to encounter the divine.  The methods used to engage youth in preaching were using language that youth can understand, employing story and narrative, and occasionally moving out of the pulpit.
