The author grewup in a Christian home and found Jesus at seventeen years old, and his spiritualgrowth was slow and steady for many years, but then stagnation set in. It was inthis period that he was introduced to spiritual disciplines, which answered hispersonal questions about spiritual growth, as their practice was the path tocontinuous, long-term spiritual growth. Every disciple of Christ has the privilegeof becoming spiritually mature, and when the proper path is taken, growth willhappen. “Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect themature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ” (Eph 4:15 NIV). The authoralso stresses how intentionality in the practice of spiritual disciplines is necessaryfor growth, which this paper will demonstrate is accessible and applicable to allChristians.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Tyndale University
602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
5d935316-d87b-4aad-af49-8ab107223376
32bfbd7e-c0d1-4310-b02e-661e3239058b
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Listening to God:The Key to Spiritual Formation for Salvationists and All People
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
b5fd6bb1-b62a-43e5-ad64-5d0259496c81
aeddc91f-aa30-485a-80aa-6bfda5c790fa
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Spiritual Formation
Tyndale University
Sarah Patterson D.Min.
2023
Canada
D.Min. How do we communicate with God? How do we know what He is saying? Through the process of writing her spiritual autobiography during the COVID-19 pandemic, the researcher discovered that communication with God occurs when people 1) intentionally take time to listen to God, and 2) use the disruption of life as an occasion to contemplate their relationship with Him. Researching models of spiritual formation and looking at patterns in literature resulted in the creation of a five-part spiritual formation model of change. This model proposes that the ability to listen to God is a key aspect of spiritual formation. An action learning research project conducted with soldiers of The Salvation Army revealed that meeting biweekly one-on-one with a spiritual director to learn and engage in spiritual practices had a positive effect on the participants’ ability to listen to God. This portfolio shows that intentionally spending time listening to God aids in the spiritual formation of the listener and is the foundation of communicating with others about their relationship with God.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Tyndale University
602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
c429ee0a-929e-42d4-b691-17131a68513f
7d7f56df-7955-4520-bf71-80fb8187ce34
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Pastoring Evolving Faiths: Faith Deconstruction and Reconstruction in a Post-Evangelical Church
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
9fb399e7-2d3d-4491-bfc1-dc1935ae9949
2f7c3b60-a51e-4b97-9b03-90ec8dd17648
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Virginia Theological Seminary
Ross Kane Ph.D.
2023
United States
D.Min. It is an experience lamented by conservative evangelical and fundamentalist leaders as a step toward apostasy. But deconstruction is also a vital practice of those seeking to retain an authentic spirituality while challenging the authoritative and often regressive doctrines and practices of their traditional church. The goal of faith reconstruction is a revitalized, more compassionate, progressive, and inclusive belief system; one that rejects ancient perspectives of an angry God and embraces a perspective of a more loving and gracious God.The act of ministry at the heart of this doctoral thesis project was implementing the “Evolving Faiths Discussion Group” in an inter-denominational church in Norman, Oklahoma. The goal was to provide a “safe space” where Christians from fundamentalist and evangelical backgrounds could openly discuss their questions and doubts about the faith they inherited, and explore more palatable alternative theologies. The intent was to provide a regular place and time, resources, and fellow deconstructors to explore those concerns. The desired outcome was that the participants would continue faith exploration as a life-long journey, become comfortable with questions as normative of spiritual health, and experience an enhanced connection with God and the world (3Cs).The project engaged in action research, and employed adapted elements from heuristic phenomenology and ethnography. The thesis examines a recent social history of the “Fall of American evangelicalism,” and the “Rise of the Spiritual But Not Religious.” It constructs a biblical defense of deconstruction, describes the implementation of the Discussion Group, presents an analysis of five core evangelical themes as they affected the participants with a composite summary of the group experience as a whole, and concludes with some pastoral reflections.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Miscellaneous
4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
4398bbd9-27c2-4be5-b234-618ebef3623c
df964bce-d5de-4ed8-b0c0-8617e6fae1b3
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Flourish: Concepts, Commands, and Conversations for Common-Good Faith and Politics in the Church
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
fdcb6135-f629-4e10-98c8-165d7d0d696f
ec8b0b7e-c53a-4ade-b997-df38b6d9efd1
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Ministry In a New England Context
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Jason McConnell D.Min.
2023
Dissertation
Text
Jonathan M Romig
Christianity and culture","Mission of the church","Bible--Use","Social action
English
The author hypothesized that the direct teaching and discussion of the biblical concepts and commands of human flourishing and the common good would give Cornerstone Congregational Church in Westford, MA a theological framework for engaging civilly in faith and politics. The second phase involved training them to preach; the third phase allowed them to preach. For this portfolio, only the first phase was examined. The participants’ involvement included choosing four Bible passages to develop into four sermons. This portfolio has V chapters. The method is developed in three parts. The first part is a spiritual autobiography where the author describes his life in Christ: Seed (Life before Christ), Death (New Life in Christ), Rooted (Learning from Christ), Pruning (Suffering with Christ). The second part is a spiritual formation model exploring how we grow in maturity in Christ: we discover our true identity in relation to Christ (know), as we abide in Christ (be) by intentionally practicing spiritual disciplines, and over time, we bear the fruit of the Spirit in Christ (do). The third part is a research project that reproduces the knowing-being-doing model in the context of a spiritual direction relationship, where the participants are led to use their imagination in prayer. As the participants connect with God using their imagination, their experience of God deepens, and the fruit is a positive change in their relationship with God.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1an9yVOQrsG6DJUay-ETPbaOKrruHthlf/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=101501316313220998615&rtpof=true&sd=true
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Tyndale University
602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
c41964c9-1471-4ce7-a431-f6018504790a
a3b1c963-5005-477b-a448-bd3089070f6f
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Assessing the Impact of Morning and Evening Prayer on the Spiritual Formation of the Wardens within the Parish of St. James and Christ Church
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
49ccf4dd-33d0-4229-a3ae-02999c0a87a8
837baa15-a3c2-4d7b-9bf3-71ab8f59f900
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Leadership
Tyndale University
Micheal krause D.Min.
2023
Canada
D.Min. The project's participants were the Wardens (who in collaboration with the priest make up the leadership team) within the Parish of Fenelon Falls and Coboconk that consist of St. James (SJ) and Christ Church (CC) Anglican churches. This research portfolio explores how spiritual formation can be developed through practices and ways in which a Christian leader can embrace its spiritual richness. The research portfolio utilized interviews, prayer journals alongside Morning and Evening Prayer as an assessment tool. Additionally, the methods used were qualitative research and ethnographic observation that linked spiritual formation with liturgical practices. This research portfolio includes key formational experiences, a philosophy of leadership, as well as a research project. The data and information gathered from this research, highlighted how Christian leaders within the Parish of SJ and CC through self-awareness and authenticity, recognized the value and appreciation for the Anglican liturgy. Simultaneously, leaders within these two congregations deepened their spiritual life. As a result, participants were visibly more engaged in the liturgy and contributed immensely within the congregations of its spiritual impact.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Tyndale University
602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
8444afbb-5f4c-4b2f-8fba-5e80abb0ab44
80daece4-1c70-4855-a843-52f1c80de914
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Brokenness, renewal, and restoration : God's master story
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
82375f50-a0fe-4d4a-a47a-ffe1bbd18d7d
f8d891da-f211-4e61-8ea8-715e8f9df8eb
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Western Theological Seminary
Alvin Padilla Ph.D.
2023
D.Min. I loved creating spaces where I felt comfortable, safe, and able to invite friends to visit. As an adult, finding a true sense of home in this life through being transformed, renewed, and restored is my goal, and furthermore, to accept God’s invitation to participate in His Master Story of renewal and restoration in order to bring others home, too.The journey of transformation is to be understood as something sublime and beautiful, fulfilling Jesus’ words that He has “come that you might have life to the full” (John 10:10). However, this journey can be particularly bumpy for those of us whose sense of home has been broken. In this thesis I pursue answers to the questions: i) How do we find a true sense of home in this life? and ii) How do we continue to live when we are there? Then, through finding answers to these questions, I pursue the answer to my research question, iii) How do we create a sense of home from home for ourselves and for others in our Christian family/community/church?The journey of transformation, the solution to the problem of brokenness, may be bumpy yet it is worth it, because it is our journey home. Home is where we are comfortable, safe, and able to invite friends and family to visit. We cannot journey alone, nor are we expected to do so. The proposed program included hands-on learning that facilitated change in the culture of the current leadership approach while addressing some adaptive and transformational leadership skills for enrichment in performing ministry tasks. The purpose of the program was to produce matured, effective, confident, committed, and able men and women in shepherding God’s flock while creating the knowledge necessary to develop and implement an educational leadership training program. This leadership program was designed to provide the opportunity for educational development for current leaders to prepare those seeking entry into ministry in the Church of God of Prophecy, Mid-Atlantic Region. Thus, pastors and bishops from the Church of God of Prophecy, Mid-Atlantic Region were surveyed and interviewed regarding the knowledge and skills that would be beneficial to future leadership training programs. Results of the survey indicated a need to improve the existing practices of leaders in the region. Participants defined a need to improve on learning new things and implementing them in the region. Results of the interviews revealed that (1) church leaders prepared for the role through learning formally and informally, (2) church leaders prepared for the role through prioritizing service, and (3) leadership qualities could be nurtured depending on the individual. The themes indicated that continuous and effective systems were in place to provide training and guidance for pastors and young aspiring ministers in preparation for effective ministry engagement. However, survey results indicated a need to improve the current education system for ministerial licensing of leader.
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/11182
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Western Theological Seminary
c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
1ec4b676-197d-49eb-add9-019dbdd1cd96
e035879f-a2aa-4cde-a113-1530d913e7a5
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
La mesa campesina
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
f3af94c0-f43b-44b1-858b-48ba5fac71e8
87370872-c150-4008-bb96-8906da40a004
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Western Theological Seminary
Alvin Padilla Ph.D.
2023
United States
D.Min.
