A smooth transition prevents unnecessary anxiety and mistakes.  The Installation Staff Chaplain and his staff are crucial to the process.  By sharing knowledge and experience they enhance the newly assigned chaplain's self-confidence, effectiveness, and early success.  The author's research includes twenty-two years experience on active duty as well as the study of books, pamphlets, articles, Air Force regulations, retreats, workshops, chaplain board materials, commander's presentations, lay and clergy group meetings.  Careful guidance gives the new chaplain an opportunity to develop his or her intrinsic value. After completing misisonary training he designed a project which trained forty village pastors in urban church planting and discipleship.  The pastors were trained and two new churches were started through the use of evangelistic teams. The program stressed the leader's responsibilities of leading, planning, and decision making; the leader's responsibility to meet the psychological, sociological, and self-acualization needs of his or her followers; and the leader's responsibility to use appropriate leadership styles.  Seventy-three percent of the forty-two participants scored seventy or above on the daily tests. Forty-one participants worked in a ministry project. Research in local church ministry relationships determines how poor relationships affect the mission and purpose of the church. Extensive materials on local church relationships and the theory of ministry relationships are available.  However, little practical material on improving relationships is available.  The research reveals that the hindrance of local church ministry by poor relationships between clergy and laity is a Protestant-wide problem.  Primary resources suggest a biblical and theoretical model for the improvement of ministry relationships.  The model proposes small groups which is the nominal group technique. Twenty theological students from five nations in Eastern Africa participated in the training.  The author's teaching methods included experiential learning techniques.  He administered the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the LIFO Survey to facilitate greater self-understanding.  He used evaluation forms and various other instruments to help the participants realize their strengths and weaknesses as leaders.  The author concludes that effects on the students' skills were in the cognitive areas of self-awareness and understanding of effective principles and practices of leadership. The paper gives a biblical and historical overview and discusses contemporary objections to healing ministry.  It examines three settings where healing ministry is practiced. The author clarifies his theological understanding and traces through journal entries his initial experiential involvement in healing ministry.  He shares reflections/learnings which may be of value to others interested in beginning a practice of healing ministry. Among these learnings is the importance of empathic prayer and the engendering of hope.  Conveying God's care and desire for wholeness for creation is crucial.  Healing ministry should be an integral part of pastoral care ministry as well as of the congregation's life and ministry. He calls for a new model of confirmation which will overcome the growing sense of dislocation felt by our youth. He develops a plan which includes a sense of personal and corporate story that is intergenerational in scope.  The project uses Arnold van Gennep's theory that rites of passage follow a universal tripartite rhythm of separation, transition, and incorporation.  The process must occur if a person is to make the transition from one stage of life to another.  One of the more important life crises, or transitions, is the coming of age. The project sought to bridge the gulf between worship and social justice groups which exists in an average parish and to bring these groups into creative relationship.  The project had four goals: 1) to develop an adult education curriculum; 2) to utilize the curriculum in three diverse parish settings (urban, rural and campus ministry); 3) to assess the curriculum; and 4) to provide information for a revision of the curriculum. The methodology derived directly from the goals.  The principal curriculum resource was a study book, The Noise of Solemn Assemblies: a Primer on Liturgy and Social Justice.  It was taught within three diverse settings and evaluated using a number of instruments and criteria. Although the gospel of the kingdom contains the four dimensions of evangelism, discipleship, community, and social justice, most ministries have stressed the first two and neglected the latter two.  This study creates and teaches a four-dimensional model that is informed by Third World theological insights and the biblical theme of the kingdom.  A library survey provides the biblical, theological, and historical content of the model.  Chapter two focused on the kingdom in the modern missionary movement and the Nazareth passage (Luke 4:16-30).  The passage is used as evidence that the kingdom theme holds both spiritual and social interpretations in a kind of tension.  Chapter three studies Third World perspectives, including the challenges posed by liberation theology. Chapter four provides an overview and assessment of ministry to internationals in the USA.  It considers the four dimensions and their integration into the new model.
