The project includes a theology, an educational approach, a narrative of the practicum, and a model for local church use. It used the understanding of older adults in a support group.  With the Council on Ministries, they identified a specific need and designed a tool of ministry -- a congregational interest inventory survey -- which was presented at a worship service led by older adults. The goal of the practicum was to develop a plan for recruiting and training lay leaders in the local church that could help solve the problem by providing a reservoir of trained and willing persons adequate to meet the needs of that church. The author worked with a local church in developing and using a leadership plan that was repeated for four years. Evaluations and observations indicated that the plan did make a significant difference in the availability of lay leadership. While working with divorced people the author discovered one theme that is common to nearly all divorce situations, the theme of loneliness.  To address the theme of loneliness he modeled his procedure after William B Ogleby Jr's book Biblical themes for pastoral care. Oglesby underscores the importance of using the biblical story to intersect life themes. This project addressed this issue by building on a strong family structure and providing the resources of the Christian faith so that communication was enhanced between parents and children.  Parents and children thought family communication was facilitated when a shared praxis model was used. From a literary review of theodicy, the book of Job and crisis management, the author develops numerous hypotheses regarding ministry to critically ill parishioners.  He then surveys and interviews critically ill persons who are both members of selected 'mainline' churches and residents of the Lower Yakima Valley of Washington state. The purpose of this project is to bring together biblical references and values, a study of current literature and insights gained from a survey of the attitudes of youth, to produce a program which influences young people in their attitudes and expectations regarding marriage.
