The basis for a twentieth-century hermeneutic is explored through Barth's 'Epistle to the Romans,' in which he posits that the hermeneutical key to Paul's letter is 'krisis.'  Included is an exploration of Charles Gerkin's works on hermeneutics in pastoral care with theological emphasis.  Crises stories from six persons and a biblical story are analyzed in group session by the methods obtained from Gerkin. A questionnaire was sent out to a large group of orthodox rabbinical courts and the data derived from this survey was used to determine the current practices. A program was then proposed, based on the author's personal knowledge and professional experience, to enhance the present procedure with a variety of experiences which followed the genuine traditions, yet were meaningful to the conversion candidate. The research method was integrative-wholistic using an action-research model.  The hypothesis was proven correct. The new 'United Methodist Hymnal: Book of United Methodist Worship' contains services or word and table that allow for the celebrant to create varieties in the prayer.  This project contains 26 eucharistic prayers based on the Common Lectionary rather than the season.  The project also examines the history of the prayer, Wesley's approach to the sacrament, and how the 1988 United Methodist liturgy developed. Gilligan's research pointed out that normative theories of development matured through their relationships.  This project thesis develops a perspective on relationship drawn from theories in the fields of psychology, theology, and faith development.  Research data consisted of twelve interviews with women who were asked to describe themselves, their relationships, and their faith. In developing mutual ministries of pastoral care an overview of methodology and the actual training experience for one local congregation are described.  Included in these ten sessions are theoretical definitions of pastoral care, biblical and theological underpinnings for caring ministries, and pragmatic training skills for listening and responding pastorally. The intent of the community was twofold: to alleviate the stress inherent in the training process; and to offer a non-hierarchical, community-based model for ministry.  The project explored several avenues for providing support including education, emotional support, and advocacy efforts.
