An aging society challenges the church to be aware of the problems that face the elderly and to help alleviate those problems.  Our biblical faith and Christian heritage emphasize the importance of the laity in ministry. An extensive research of printed data and current programs leads to a pilot project of visitation by the author and a fifteen-member task group.  The main goal is to provide an avenue of care to the elderly of Central Church.  The project enables the laity to see the need for a shared ministry to the church's aged. The evaluations reveal that the Bible study raises the consciousness that stewardship is a lifestyle. The thesis was that churches that corporately emphasized the pastoral roles of enabler and evangelist grow more rapidly than those which place less emphasis on these roles.  A questionnaire was administered to two groups of churches -- a control group of churches that grows approximately ten percent per annum and a randomly selected group of churches that grow slowly or decline in size. In support of this ministry the project addresses differences between Chinese and American cultures and the felt needs of various age groups among the immigrants.  Data is drawn from surveys and personal observations.
