Research focused on an examination of past training and interviews of 120 persons, including laity, clergy, missionaries and administrators. The research led to the development of three training modules: 'communication styles,' 'the vision and ministry of CBHMS,' and 'building a support team'. The research includes an eight-week, fourteen hour seminar/workshop that features the prayer principles from the Lord's Prayer in theory and in practice. A prayer survey given before and after the training measures changes in the prayer practice of the trainees. Students were evaluated by empirical observation, that involved the student, a peer, and adviser, and the discipler, and reproducibility in a second small group.  The students practiced relational skills and the spiritual disciplines of: daily prayer, Bible reading, time stewardship, group accountability and journal keeping.  The discipler served as a mentor and as a model for the disciplines. The context of the study is a Free Methodist Church in western Pennsylvania.  The project is built around the case study method which currently is used at Asbury Theological Seminary to evaluate professional action and encourage critical thinking.  The important factors which contribute to trust building are familiarity, compatibility, self-disclosure and leadership styles. The Seventh-day Adventist church has not developed tools that enable the pastor to meet this responsibility.  The Deeper Life Conference is designed to fill this gap through the adaptation of the spiritual retreat concept.  During the weekend long conference, the participants receive instruction in meditation, prayer, healthfulness, and fasting, and are given time to practice meditation and prayer.  Three surveys taken before, at the close of the Conference, and six months after the conference determine the growth in the participants' spiritual life. The author concluded that the elderly need: to be accepted by others; help in continuing their church development; opportunities to serve others; and to participate in program development. Architecture, schedules, and transportation plans must support the participation of the elderly in church life. He designed a questionnaire on the Likert Response model to measure commitment, fellowship, power, change, unity and values. This instrument was used as a pre-test and a post-test. His treatment involved a sermon series, a core group and a congregational retreat.  The data reveals that congregational unity increased during the implementation.
