The aim of the project is twofold: 1) to discover, through a historical case study, a Reformed precedent for 'class networking', and 2) test such 'class networking' among some of today's Reformed laity in the Washington, D C area. Dr Thomas Chalmers and his nineteenth century class networking in urban Scotland is chosen as the Reformed precedent. Two groups of affluent laity (one experimental, one control) are selected at random from Reformed parishes to engage in a one-year test of the hypothesis. Results underscore the validity of the hypothesis. The experimental group becomes less prejudiced toward 'the poor' after the year of socializing and the control group shows no change or more prejudice after its year of non-involvement with 'the poor'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799714981419155456,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:39:14.630Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:42:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:32:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e3e72d15-3fc7-4f55-8ee0-abea48784c24","accessControl_ssim":["00711016-8799-47d6-a713-7b32d77aee46"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Claiming the Bible: feminist biblical interpretation and the local church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:42:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:38:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["60d76b2a-7021-4b7e-b05f-dfecbbb7e412"],"hasLease_ssim":["a4e42539-b766-4f86-83ef-9888622d91d6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John D Godsey"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It departed from its Wesleyan and classical origins during its New World development. Research for this study is based on a questionnaire and a review of the historical development of American Methodism. Data is drawn from one hundred pastors in the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. The results of the study indicate a disparity between Methodist practice and piety with regard to the Eucharist. This disparity contributes to the recent ills of the denomination. Methodism's rediscovery of its classical piety is urgent. Some positive signs of movement toward that goal are present."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["795851c5-e081-4353-9c00-2c554dd1d015"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135364005494784,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:49:53.859Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:42:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:42:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"30a19b9e-f833-4dd7-8bcc-acb376677827","accessControl_ssim":["fb2a07ae-a376-439b-9fc0-9c56b73898d6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A denominational third party consultant in a congregation and minister conflict"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:42:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:32:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f1a18826-7600-4cf8-929e-6c284482ff32"],"hasLease_ssim":["5c6be559-e7bb-48dd-949c-e0fc32c48537"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["D Bruce Roberts"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["L Eugene Ton"],"publisher_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Clergy","Laity","Baptists","Conflict management","Baptists--Government"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Judicatory personnel are in a strategic position to respond to congregation and pastor conflict. The thesis of this paper is twofold: 1) that a trained and working pastoral relations committee in a congregationally governed local church can be effective in resolving conflict between a congregation and pastor; 2) that judicatory personnel can be third-party consultants who train and work with the pastoral relations committee in collaborative intervention. The study brings together the disciplines of theology, history and applied social sciences to analyze and propose appropriate interventions into conflict. It recognizes the particular context of a Baptist congregation and the polity of its denomination.
