Sixteen women and eight men completed a questionnaire and a Firo B to assess levels of developmental functioning.  In-depth interviews were conducted with five subjects.  Evidence was found for the problems in both these stages including expression of feelings (intimacy) and a strong desire for freedom from outside demands (autonomy). A survey questionnaire was adminsitered to clients in two separate congregations.  The questionnaire sought to determine whether there were any changes in the long term working relationship betweens the pastors and the clients. A case study was also presented.  The results were largely positive.  Any negative effect was seen only in one client out of sixteen, and that client was still in counseling. The project studies four groups within congregational life.  Intervention is primarily in the form of a workshop-seminar for officers and other laity of the church.  The project uses the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument.  One hundred one persons responded to the test instrument.  Several variables serve as means for comparing data with standard analyses. The central proposal is that a liturgical rite, specifically designed for use in home visitation, can be a valuable tool in helping a pastor become a more effective visitor.  A rite modeled on the 'Affirmation of Baptism' order in the Lutheran Book of Worship is used in parish visits.  Response forms from the visited are included in the project. It gives a working definition of healthy spirituality.  Four case studies address the significance of individual values, guilt, anger, and grief as they relate to anxiety and pain.  The theological rationale for the project is based on Paul Tillich's threefold description of existential anxiety. The study indicates that chronic pain is more often the result of life history than medical history. It seeks help from communications theorists and God's word of reconciliation. Theorists offer communication skills and the view of human nature these skills presuppose.  The Word provides a key to completing the definition of human nature and a solution to the dilemma of people alienated from God and from each other.  The thesis states that the collective witness of Christians will be more understandable, relevant and persuasive when the above contributions are used.
