In the second Quadrennium it received greater support from the Church.  Within the Southern New England Conference a strategy was put into place in 1983.  This project focuses on that strategy and raises questions about its relevance. To determine the impact of the strategy, visits are made to ethnic centers, a structured interview is held with Bishop George Bashore and questionnaires are sent to district superintendents, pastors and lay persons. The research of the project uses methods from the Congregational Studies Institute (July 3-13, 1984, Union Seminary, New York) in the areas of identity, context, program and process.  It applies them to the author's ministerial setting.  The second purpose of this project is to develop an outline of a five-year plan for mission and ministry which the leadership of the author's congregation could use to understand the church's changing socio-cultural environment.  The research uncovers a mission orientation in the learned identity, context, program and process of the congregation. It interprets the eucharist by using themes from third world theology and postulates that this worship form can be used to understand and motivate a ministry of social justice in a church.  It compares and contrasts congregational attitudes toward worship and outreach ministries before and after a year-long program which includes a study series and parish missions. The project includes an analysis of interim ministry, a history of the church under study, group process design and guidelines for the interim pastor serving during a time of transition.  This project is a case study.
